Some said that neurotin or depakote could take the place of benzo since I still so anxious and getting depressed when babble off hasn't helped. But is this true and if so the luvox at l00mg is making so tired and spaced in the day it's like depression is that was it is? Should I cut down on that? Keep the benzos or what. I'm just so thrilled to have babble up. Love Phillipa ps I mean can a higher dose of luvox or another ad depress you more?

Hi PJ
Neurontin and Depakote are very different to benzos and will not 'take the place of a benzo'. Neurontin has demonstrated modest effectiveness in the treatment of certain anxiety disorders whereas Depakote has not. Depakote is effective in the treatment of acute mania, but this is not relevant to you.
You might find that Neurontin could reduce your anxiety. It will not replace the Valium though, which you will need to taper gradually if you decide to come off it.

No, but it might be a side effect. It can take a few weeks to adjust to a higher dose - you just have to stick it out. This is the only way to find out whether the higher dose will help you in the long run. Don't starting taking any other meds (such as Neurontin) until you've given Luvox a chance to work.

I use Neurontin for anxiety. At high doses it even made me feel a little drunk, 2700 mg, but now I just take 1200 mg before bed. As I do, you may be able to use it along with benzos, decreasing the need for them at higher doses.
My nephew felt stoned on just 100 mg, so it clearly can vary a lot in its effects.
Peace,
Johann

I've had docs try to get me to go with depakote for anxiety. I guess the idea is that since they have a dulling effect, they must have an anxiolytic effect--this just isn't the case.
Can you get your doc to increase the benzo dosage? The goal should be to get your anxiety under control with the fewest drugs and side effects as possible. A benzo will lower your anxiety with few side effects and relatively low cost. You just need to get the dose high enough to get anxiety relief w/o disinhibition. Remember that some people take 4-8mgs/klonopin (thats 80-160mgs/day valium) and up to 10mgs/day of xanax. Benzos are ridiculously cheap, very effective, and remarkably safe--I think you'd do yourself a favor by focusing on a benzo instead of trying other drugs.

my weird body had bad reactions to neurontin & depakote. my recent experience with benzos has been helpful. worried about addiction, but just trying to get through the day right now.

Med actually one did and I didn't want that. So I'm working on me and going out more by myself and just not worrying about the anxiety. My pulse isn't high. And this thread was not my pdocs Idea it was mine. Been so bored without the site last week was researching. Thanks Love Phillipa

Yes, the tolerated dosage of Neurontin varies. And, it can make some people feel so tired they can't function. I take 600 mg. at night, and it helps me sleep. Any more and I would be zonked. Others take much more and aren't affected. Some people use Neurontin for anxiety, but I don't think this is what it is for. I don't know for sure though.
This is the end of the thread.
