Stopping Smoking and Starting Xanax

Posted by Pluto on May 6, 2007, at 3:30:08

Good news: I can stop smoking while I am on euphoriant doses of Xanax. ie. 1mg three times daily. The reason is smoking interferes with the euphoria I get from Xanax!

But on the flipside: Taking Xanax in such doses can be problematic. I want to get your opinions here. What it would be like taking 3mg of Xanax for two or three weeks until I can break the habit of smoking, then come back to the regular dosing ie 1mg daily.
Would there be withdrawal symptoms? Would it be replacing one addiction to another?

I know it takes more than two weeks to form a habit. Likewise, it would take more than two weeks to break such a habit.

What you think? Is it a fairtrade? Taking Xanax in high doses and qutting smoking?

Which is lesser evil? Xanax or B&H?

PS: Neither Chantrix nor Zyban helped me this way.

You would in all likely hood build up an addiction to the xanax can you just not cut down on the original dose and keep doing that til your're not smoking anymore? Just a thought. Love Phillipa

Be careful. Xanax is highly addictive and some people get withdrawel symptoms after just taking it for a week or two. You can try staying on this dose until you stop smoking, then slowly tapering down. I just wouldn't advise you to stay on Xanax too long or to taper it down too fast.

Pluto,
I have not smoked in a month after a 20+ year habit. I used patches and played Guitar Hero obsessively to quit.

When you taper down on the xanax be sure to have a stratagy in place so that you don't return to smoking or there you will be with 2 monkeys on your back.

Good Luck!
Kaye
