I take paxil. i also take small dose xanax 3 times a day sometimes 4 times.
I been taking modafinil for like 5 days.I have depression but with paxil and xanax it is not Nearly as bad as it was on other meds. I lack motivation and enjoyment of anything also very tired most of the time...
But when i tried 100mg provigil(modafinil) i was more wakeful, less tired, not feeling like i want to lay down and sleep like i usually do. I felt more motivation and I was more social, it had an uplifting effect on my mood...
But that effect started to diminish on perhaps the 4th day. I also started taking 100mg twice a day on the 3rd and 4th day.
5th day I took just 100mg.... and about a few hours later i was listening to music and I just felt so bad. I couldn't understand why. I turned it off and tried to play some videogames, try and distract myself... but it remained. I felt so terrible.Things started to appear dark. Like my vision is dark. I would lose motivation, not interested in doing anything. I couldnt even play my stupid video game. So miserable. And I believ what I got was anxiety. Hell I dont even know the exact definition but it seems to be a large part of what it was. I would gain fear and worry and just scared. Just feeling so terrible in general and not wanting to do anything I curled up in bed.
What on earth happened? Does this happen to some people on Modafinil? Does it worsen depression and cause anxiety/fear in some people? How common is this side effect?
OR is it a bad mix with paxil and xanax and is that the cause of the problem?
ANy insight would be appreciated please. I will take modafinil again tomorrow and I hope it makes me feel uplifted and energized like the first days.. if it gets worse again I will stop taking it for sure.

In reply to Provigil(Modafinil) worsens dep? Or bad med mix?, posted by AdamCanada on May 3, 2007, at 3:31:35
I haven't used provigil with paxil, but I'm inferring that you experience a fair amount of anxiety even on paxil.
I would give provigil a much longer trial before deciding that it was causing a transient reaction of anxiety or depressed mood.
Could it have been the music, or something else that you were thinking about?
Provigil isn't an extremely strong stimulant, so while it can lighten or improve mood, and give you more energy, for a while, it doesnt' give you so much as to overcome other powerful states. of tiredness or anxiety. It works better on less intense states. It can sometimes increase anxiety a bit-- but in my experience not often.
I used it with Parnate, which made me very tired; and it helped a little, but often wasn't strong enough to overcome the exhaustion. Overall though it was quite useful even with Parnate.
I would try it much longer than one day, and see how it does. The effects often are subtle, but noticeable improvement in energy and alertness.
