Meds that lessened feeling disconnected?

Posted by chiron on April 3, 2007, at 17:37:06

I hate this feeling - I feel so abnormal and disconnected. I've always felt this way. LOGICALLY I don't feel that I am. I can interact socially pretty well, and from the outside I appear to be functioning ok. But I have this constant internal tortuous unease, along with constantly analyzing what the purpose of life is. It seems like it is related to the anxiety/ depression/ imbalance spectrum, but adds another level of suffering (the minutes go by so slow). Has anyone had this experience and found relief from anything?

Chiron that's what I'm going through now. And so far haven't found a thing. I think I was much better on the lower dose of valium and luvox. But something has to work. What meds have you tried? Love Phillipa

Yeah, benzos did away with the urge to analyze the external world pretty much. 2-4mg Klonopin should do the trick.

Thanks for responding, and it's nice to know I'm not alone (although of course I wish you didn't have to go through this either).
As far as meds go, I've been on about everything. But that's good to hear Quintal say that a benzo helped him. The only benzo I have been on is occassional Xanax, so maybe another one would help.

Thank you so much, that gives me so much hope & relief that there could be a solution. I have never tried Klonopin, only Xanax. Do you take it regularly? Does it also help feeling less disconnected?

My immediate reaction is to say 'not from anything legal'.

But you know, yesterday I actually didn't feel like that, for an hour or three.
Of course you know there's no purpose to life(?), but that doesn't help?

Really, I have felt like that all my life.

The thing is, can you find some situations, or can you create them, in which you have that connection and ease?
Don't ask me how. When you do it, tell me how you did.

I haven't taken Klonopin for about nine months since I was forced to quit taking it cold turkey. I had 'problems' with it, which I've described at length elsewhere on babble.

Here:

That doesn't mean you will go on to develop problems yourself of course. Opiates are also very helpful, even at low doses, though high doses are even nicer. Cocaine is effective too, amphetamines less so. I had the best response ever to a cocktail of 200mg Lamictal, 4mg Klonopin and 120mg Parnate.

The Dalai Lama tells me the true purpose of life is to attain enlightenment, and devote or lives to freeing all sentient beings from suffering and the bondage of ignorance. So there you are.

Quite right.

Always nice to come across anything he's written.

In fact......when I can live a little like that, that's when I feel best.

<But you know, yesterday I actually didn't feel like that, for an hour or three.>
- were you on anything?
<of course you know there's no purpose to life(?), but that doesn't help?>
- ya, I'm pretty sure there is no purpose, I'm past the religious thing (after much analysis) and reading 'The God Delusion.' I actually hope there is no purpose, and my greatest fear is that I will still have to exist after this life. I don't want to exist anymore. No pleasure is worth this painful existence.
It amazes me that people aren't so consummed by this analysis, I just don't understand. I'm relieved to hear a couple of you can relate so that I don't feel I'm the only one. It's like my brain is always on multi-task: analyzing life, feeling misery, watching the clock, and pretending to be normal.

Nothing illegal :)
Just tianeptine and a little Valium.
But I was working with people who kinda like me and I was managing to be useful.
Perhaps it was mainly that there was a kid on work experience with me on the desk (a little younger than my kids) and it made me happy to set her at her ease.
It might have been that.

Do you think you could have depersonalization disorder?

Something like Buddhism?

Couldn't that be useful?

Unfortunately I feel probably overly-connected/ stuck to my body.
