Any drug interaction between Klonopin + Provigil?

Posted by football on March 31, 2007, at 6:41:59

I've heard some reports that the Provigil can make Klonopin less effective. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

If I was a betting man, I would say yes. But heck, you never know how these drugs affect you until you take them, unfortunately. Logic says if Klonopin slows you down, Provigil speeds you up, therefore they sort of equal each other out. However, the brain does not follow logic.

I would try taking all the Provigil before noon, and all the Klonopin after dark. Just a thought.

Yes that might be true to some extent. Provigil works by opposing gaba to promote alertness and klonopin acts on gaba. Seems like they might neutralize each other.

There seems to be some misconception of what Provigil does. It's not a stimulant, it's a 'wakefulness promoting' drug that (when it works) stops you falling asleep, nothing more. You can't really compare it the effects of amphetamines. It may counteract the drowsiness of Klonopin and prevent nodding, so there might be a psychological element of feeling more 'exposed' and aware of the world around you than when taking Klonopin alone. It might hang on how much you associate the beneficial effect of Klonopin on sedation/reduced alertness.

If you're taking large doses of Provigil you might start to suffer from feelings of 'inner tension'.
