So, uh, is this what remission feels like?

Posted by Racer on March 23, 2007, at 1:35:03

My pdoc had me add SAMe to my current cocktail, and about a week later -- I feel better than I have in years. I think this might actually be remission.

I'm fairly amazed. This is so different, but I kinda remember this being what "normal" feels like for me. I can't tell you how amazing it is for me.

Of course, being me, that means that I'm still experiencing some symptoms -- mostly OCD type stuff. Still -- I feel positively giddy! And yes, my T and I discussed whether this was a sign of bipolar or not. She thinks not. I tend to agree. I just feel as though I'm on vacation, you know? Vacation from feeling crappy, I guess. It's wonderful, though.

Since y'all hear all the crud, I thought y'all might enjoy hearing some good news for a change.

For the record, I'm taking:

450mg Wellbutrin XL
10mg Prozac (name brand, but gonna try a different generic, to see if it gives the benefits without the hives I got from the last one)
10 to 15mg Ritalin (split dose)
200mg SAMe bid

This is very heart-warming. I'm actually a little teary. It can't happen to a nicer person, either. I'm very happy for you.

Its nice to hear you are feeling absolutely great.

Isnt SAMe the over the counter stuff with the little guy stretching his arms out? I've been wondering about SAMe for years. I think I might buy some.

Yeah! So happy for you. makes me want to go out and buy a bottle of SAMe.....

I hope you make up for all those times you felt too lousy to do something fun; or you did something "fun" and it wasn't.

I want to see more posts like this!!! (nm)

I could be wrong be I think racer recently added Prozac too. (Just in case there is a mad dash to procure SAMe)

Excellent, how long have you been trying for this, you say years...is that 2 or 3 or more?

That Wellbitrin/SSRI/stimulant combo has been one that has worked for me so the SAM-E was the missing link. Not often added, at least I've never taken or had it suggested to me. Good to keep in mind when you get so far with a combo but not quite there.

Enjoy your new found remission, it must feel so good to be there, finally.

I started Prozac about the middle of February, cross tapering off Zoloft. That first generic, though, caused hives on my face, neck, and chest, so I was off all serotinergic drugs for a couple of weeks. Then we added the name brand Prozac, which I've been taking maybe 2 weeks now?

So, you're absolutely right -- the Prozac is new, as well as the SAMe. I'm not sure which has kicked up the juice, but I'm just gonna try to enjoy it. (Prozac seems to be causing blurred vision, though, which might be a deal breaker...)

Thanks for pointing that out.

Well, I've been on the Medication Go Round now for four years, as of August. (Or maybe July? Whichever -- July '03 is when I crashed and burned. And since then, I've been through the wringer, with trials of at least a dozen drugs. (I won't try to count them up right now, though.)

I was actually doing just well enough on Wellbutrin/Ritalin that I would have stuck with that as Good Enough, but our marriage counselor convinced me that I could do better. And you know what? She was right. That's a habit of hers, and it can be very annoying...

And yes, it does feel good to be here. Thank you.
