Seroquel side effects

Posted by johnnyj on March 17, 2007, at 9:35:07

I went up from 25 to 50 last night and had LOTS of dreaming. I was able to get back to sleep the 3 times I woke up but each time I woke up it was right after a dream. Dreams seem very, very real. I wonder if the REM is because of the lack of sleep I have had over the past 8 months or does the drug cause this?

Also, I took the tablet at 8:30 and seemed to be in a state like my head was in a hot tub or something. Very smooth feeling like a warm buzz. Not a bad feeling almost kind of nice. That feeling is almost addicting. I have never had this with any other medication I have taken though. Not sure if it is something that goes away as I don't want to be out of it for long periods of time like that.

Any experiences out there?

Thank you.

The dreams will subside in a matter of a few days. I have never noticed the buzzed feeling that you mention so I don't have any input of value there. I know I've had some really wild dreams that are like bad action movies or something....lol

Johnny, I like seroquel too. My only fight with it is munchies. I have very vivid dreams at night too (100mg). Nightmares, and very pleasant dreams. I always remember the nightmares more, I think alot of people do. I'm afraid of drowning to death, and for some reason my sleeping brain likes to scare me with a 'jumping out of a helecoptor at high altitudes, into a huge deep body of water'. Heh, damn nightmares. But I LOVE to sleep. =)

I have had some nausea, especially when the dose is raised. I was really fatigued and had some muscle weakness this morning also. Became quite dizzy around 11 am and had some anxiety. I am taking it mainly for sleep and anxiety so I was hoping to get a days worth out of 50mg. 25 mg was ok but I had some breakthrough anxiety the next day late in the afternoon. I metabolize drugs slow so hoping 50 last all day.

Good to hear about the dreams as they wake me up after a really vivid one. I was getting about 5 hours of sleep on 25 so the doc thinks 50 or so will get me about 7 hours or so.

Any other side effects you have had. I hope this stimulates my appetite as that is part of my problem.

regards johnnyj

I can't take benzo's as they depress me horribly and cause anxiety at times. I don't know why but they are not good for me. It doesn't appear ssri's are any good either. The med merry-go-round has begun. Hopefully seroquel will be enough. Time will tell.

I tried Seroquel. I moved up from 25 mg to 300 mg over a couple of weeks at bedtime and it would knock me right out at all the doses. It was like going unconcious, very disconcerting. Then I had anxiety during the day. As Seroquel is supposed to help with anxiety it was puzzling. My PDOC wrote to the pharmacuetical company and they had reported anxiety at dosages of 600 mg or more. I'm very sensitive to meds, they work on me at low doses so it made sense that I would have anxiety even at a lower dose. I also tried to drink one night and had a very scary experience. I got up in the early morning to feed my dogs and fell over in the kitchen, bumped my head and broke the scoop cup and dog food was all over the floor. I suggest never drinking on the stuff. I had to stop taking Seroquel because of the anxiety. I'm glad your experiences are positive!

Hmmmm, I am very anxious and kind of unsettled in the morning and throughout the day I almost seem to get dizzy and real spacey at times. I am also very med sensitive and benzo's/ssrri's are terrible for me.

Did you lower the dose and the feeling subside?

johnnyj I did not lower the dose, I just stopped it and switched back to Zyprexa. Immediate relief.

Well I spoke too soon. When the dose was raised to 50 mg all hell broke loose. I couldn't sit still on Sunday! I could not figure out what was going on so I called the doc. She thought akathisia and told me to go back down to 25. It isn't helping for sleep and causing so much jumpiness why take it? So, I am going to remeron at 3.75 and hope for some sleep. I am so tired and I feel nothing is going to help me. The ssri's sent me into akathisia hell. I just need some relief.
