I took 12.5mg tianeptine with 10mg escitalopram (Lexapro/Cipralex) an hour ago. I'm feeling pretty weird and queasy now. I'm not entirely sure why I took it, to take the pain of my bad back away and ease codeine withdrawal I suppose. It seems to be working for the back pain but I'm not liking this spaced-out feeling and weird coldness in my legs and brain.

Could it be a mild serotonin syndrome thingy? I don't know, I hope I don't freak you out or anything, but at the same rate, I don't want you to danger yourself!
Kind regards
Meri

Why are you withdrawing an opiod with a serotonin med? Is that how they do things there? Love Phillipa

No, I'm trying to find something that will help replace the codeine in helping with anxiety and depression. I was hoping tianeptine would do that.

Has anyone else noticed this on SSRIs? Or is it the combo? Today I've been pretty bright, calm and happy. I wonder if tianeptine was taking the serotonin too low? I don't want to take another dose of escitalopram because it was awful, maybe 5mg at most if I do. At least I know the combo is safe and reasonably effective if I ever need it again.

How does tianeptine compare with SSRIs?
My Parnate/tianeptine combo was awful, as I said elsewhere.

For me tianeptine is calm and fuzzy while SSRIs are cold and hard. I prefer tianeptine over them certainly. SSRIs tend to numb and truncate my feelings while tianeptine seems to blur and soften them slightly. I also had no side effects from tianeptine but loads with SSRIs. They're a little agitating.
Tianeptine doesn't seem to alter the effect of escitalopram much in my case.

I've been on tianeptine for two years. In my experience it is excellent for pain associated with depression and also for anxiety. The only side effects I have from it are a slightly dry mouth from time to time and temporary nervousness (but not anxiety) if I increase the dose. I feel more confident on this medication and it has improved my asthma too.
Have you tried tramadol (Ultram)? Although it is indicated in the treatment of pain, it does inhibit the reuptake of serotonin and perhaps norepinephrine, so in theory it should work as an antidepressant and could help you with the codeine withdrawal.
Good luck! :-)

Thanks for the advice sukarno. I noticed I had no pain when climbing the stairs soon after starting tianeptine. I've taken tramadol many times for it's euphoric/antidepressant/anxiolytic effects, but I seem to build tolerance rapidly. I was taking 800mg a day last year and it reached a point where even that was doing nothing for me any more. It is useful to have on hand for crises though, but I can't get any right now.

I've noticed a reduction in physical pain on tianeptine too.
