Heh I switched from 90mg Nardill to 30 mg of Parnate in 4 days with no ill effects, (not bad hey got rid of my brain zaps to) except I slept all day today which is a worry but I didn't sleep well the night before.
Just a few questions.Do you find fatigue comes on after a dose of Parnate wears off or is it random?
Any benefits from high dose parnate like 120 mg
Anyone gain weight on Parnate?
Anyone find Effexor good and not poop out?
Regards.
Fryer.

>Hey! I slept all day today and had a final dose of 10mg parnate (with some coffee [dunno why]) and I got a slight buzz, I then took 60mg of Tamazapam thinking it would be easy to have a good nights rest but can't sleep at all! infact I wanna do stuff. I remember Parnate has short quick onset of action... But yeah I think I might be able to combat the fatigue with a dose of parnate followed by a small meall & a dose of caffein.
I ask the Effexor Question because I think it would be good for lifting weights, but its pooped out on me a number of times, maybe due to alcohol abuse, but I doubt it.
I ask about the Effexor because it might be good for weight lifting, but its pooped on me many a times

FrequentFlyer, if you have one second do you mind answering:
How long were you on Nardil? Did you get any positive effects? What dosage were you taking? How much weight gain did it cause? Do you think that was because Nardil affected your metabolism or gave you carb cravings? Did you have any other negative side effects?
And finally, since I am dealing with anxiety, did Nardil have any effect on your anxiety? Thanks, Michael

I've never experienced fatigue with Parnate; I get over-activated, which is why I take Atenolol (for akathisia) and Seroquel (for insomnia) and switch off between Ambien and Halcion (for insomnia, to prevent tolerance to one of the drugs).I am on 120 mg and it has changed my life. I noticed its AD effects beginning at 90 mg and with the increased dose, I am truly HAPPY for the first time in my life.
I've been on Parnate now since October 06. Before that I was on it for about a year but the dose was too low.
I have gained weight but I was severely anorexic when I started the medication, and given that I am on several meds that cause weight gain, it's hard to say which has done what. I started at 78 pounds (at a height of 5'3). I now weigh 115 - 120. But I needed to gain it and am at a healthy weight so it could be just resolution of anorexia nervosa.

Yess the fatique varies from person to person, remeber everyone takes it different times, everyone is built different.
But in general,it has a common later afternoon fatque factor...i wouldent fight it too much but instead just moniter a small nap if u can, fighting only makes me cranky at night,so even if i let myself get 30 min in seems to help.
Also ive been mentioning caffiene as what SEEMS to be a safe stimulant addtive to either combat fatigue or give the med a nice boost, especialy if a benzo is used along side.I def prefer it over actual stimulants, just by now not only is the parnate poopping out,so is the caffiene,so its pretty rough and i lift weights as well.
Your dose escaltion shocks me,only because when i first when on it,i never dreamed id be at 100 mg doses,it took a while for me to end up there due to weight gain from lifting and just simple tolerance, but doses of 120 def werent on my mind starting up.If its helping, dont worry about how high YOU CAN GO,its better to take comfort in knowing u have options.
Get the most out of every dose level,.....also im glad to see you switched with little to no washout, its my belief very little washout is needed for the average person when its maoi - maoi.Good Luck

> Do you find fatigue comes on after a dose of Parnate wears off or is it random?> It can but not usually on a small dose like 30 mgs. Your body was going through a lot switching from Nardil, etc.
> Any benefits from high dose parnate like 120 mg
> Yes, but no need to strive for 120 mgs which is a lot. 40 mgs. may be all you need, or perhaps 60mgs, if it works, there is no reason to raise the dose.

I was on it for 3 months 90mg, Good social anxiety relief but very little motivation.
Sleep wasn't a problem.
Anorgasmia big problem, but it very slowly goes away.
Gained about 10kg (hell of allot) after 3 months from both carb cravings and metabolism Id say.
Hard to say about anxiety, I dont think it helped much I only really get social anxiety and it helped allot for that exept when I was binge drinking /benzo abusing, which was most of the time and probably made up for 30% of my weight gain, but I was still spending 2 hours at the gym every day.> FrequentFlyer, if you have one second do you mind answering:

Good to hear, I got a script for seroquel today aswell, I reckon a strong nights sleep may prevent the fatigue.

Yeah I have experienced some mild hypertension but id dosn't bother me to much.
And yeah Caffien helps big time like after a dose of parnate I get these head tingles like when I used to use large amounts of amphetamines, but again mild hypertension.> Yess the fatique varies from person to person, remeber everyone takes it different times, everyone is built different.

My big question is, Do you guys occasionally get drunk and go out and party when in a good mood on Parnate?
I drank half a bottle of Vodka last night & it did nothing. I think because Parnate when you first take it it is like amphetamine & the two cancel each other out.

Everybody is different, so I won't recommend alcohol consumption while on a MAOI. However, I have a couple of drinks of whiskey on almost a nightly basis. This is while I was on Nardil for years and Parnate just recently. The alcohol relaxes me somewhat, but I don't even get a buzz from it. I wouldn't risk a half bottle of 80 proof alcohol. That is probably a little to risky, especially if you are using benzos with the MAOI.
Take care,
Jedi

>Yeah Im on half a bottle of 80% proof right now & feel good, dont get hang overs.... But yeah it quite possibly phucks up my sleep which wil phuck up my Depression, especially if done every night or second night.
I have a huge alcohole / benzo tollerance though,,, & its really hard staying off them when your meds arn't at 100%, I might try & ween myself off both soon.

Hi all, i was on Parnate, with much success, for years. Parnate saved my life, but I think I grew tired of the side effects-like chronic insomnia. so after an emergency room visit from a reaction with the parnate, i was ready try something new. i started the Emsam patch as soon as it hit the market. I never felt like it was working like I needed it to. A new doc put me on cymbalta and seroquel. It was a disaster except 25 mg of seroquel puts me to sleep like nothing else. I know that I need to be on an MAOI as they are the only class of drugs that really works for me. But I don't know much about combining seroquel with parnate or emsam. I think I got a little freaked out by posts with warnings against taking seroquel. What do you guys think of parnate with seroquel. Thanks for any advice.

In reply to Re: Advice- Long Time Parnate Users + Seroquel, posted by bunny-rabbit on March 21, 2007, at 16:54:39
personally, i dislike seroquel, the sedation is mainly due to histamine release, though its dopamine antagonism can help during a manic or schizo phase.
parnate/seroquel combo gave me the worst hypotension.
i couldn't get up from a sitting position w/out first bending over, and acclimating my bp. or else pass out on the floor.i think seroquel is an overpriced alternative to benzo's; at non anti-psychotic doses. at doses below 50mg, one might as well take diphenhydramine; which are both for me extremely unpleasant, and their effects on the peripheral nervous system idosyncratic. though diphenhydramine is contraindicated with maoi's due to "bizarre behavior".
seroquels main appeal is the low propensity for eps or tardive dyskinesia, and it does not appear as habit forming. as far as an anti-psychotic; its usefull, as a mood stabilizer, i find it questionable.
