When will Cymbalta wear off?

Posted by kerria on March 10, 2007, at 22:54:09

hi everyone. my dr gave me Cymbalta to help with nerve pain but i'm so sick. i took it about eight hrs ago- just 20 mg- i was planning on making dinner but the nausea and dizziness was so bad that i had to drop everything right in the middle of it and lie down for five hours. i'm still so sick.

How long will it take to wear off? How could one low dose get me so sick? Lots o people take this- anyone else get sick like this? It even seems like my nerve pain is worse- like Cymbalta blocked the effects o my pain medicine a little- i'm having more pain- and i didn't throw up- not yet anyways. When will it wear off?

Thank you,
kerria

The initial weirdness I had with Cymbalta lasted two or three days -- mind you, I continued to take it. After those few days of weirdness, it did help my pain a lot. It might be worth sticking it out for a while, to see if it helps for you, too.

Ahhh, are you taking opiates for pain? Most antidepressants of that class block the enzyme that converts codeine analogues into morphine, rendering them ineffective.

Thank you Racer, Phillipa and Quintal.

i'm just now able to get out of bed- the vomiting became so severe that i almost went to the hospital. It was especially terrible because i couldn't hold down pain meds.

Yes, Quintal - i take oxycontin for pain. Cymbalta does block the pain reducing effects. i want to lower it - am so afraid of effects - it's too large a dose. i thought Cymbalta would help but i'm so sensitive to antidepressents and anti psychotics. i had companzine and i know that falls into those classes of meds but somehow it was ok to help the severe nausea.

i will never take it again- i think it's an allergy- i kept having sneezing and vomiting at the same time and could hardly breathe.

why am i so sensitive- it was only 20 mg and i know someone who takes over 100 mg. i tried cymbalta and had a negative effect before but it was years ago and i thought that i may have been attributing the effect to my imagination but no- i can't take it . It's sad because i really wanted to start going off the oxycontin or at least lowering it. Since the surgery in Jan the pain is worse - not better. i hope that i heal.

Thanks you so much,
kerria

Kerria where have you been? Is the pain better today? I guess it's not for you the cymbalta I mean. I hate it when you're in Pain. Love Phillipa
