question for users of brand name Adderall (regular

Posted by laima on February 23, 2007, at 15:19:59

Maybe my burning question would be simpler if I rephrased it like this:

Have any users of regular-length, ordinary Shire Adderall started using this new so-called "Barr Adderall"? This is supposedly Barr's "brand Adderall"- not to be confused with their generic "amphetamine salt" version of "adderall". And if so, are you finding it to be an identical product to Shire's, or not? I was ultimately very unhappy with Barr's generic, am I'm quite frightened that they'll screw up this med and I'll be near back to square one.

I found some stuff about the aquisition online, but still can't figure out who is in charge of manufacture now.

It sounds as if Barr took it over from Shire in December 2006.

"Barr Pharmaceuticals has completed its acquisition of Shire's ADHD drug Adderall for $63 million, after no objections were raised by the Federal Trade Commission."

They may be snafuing with the XR version, too-trying to get around Shire's patent:

Interesting. I agree, the Barr generic does stink. But maybe now that they own grandma Shire's secret recipe, the Barr generic could actually improve?

But my concern- wasn't their so called generic "adderall" supposedly identical to the original? And what's up now with them manufacturing both brand AND generic if they are so identical? What if they decide to cut corners with the premium product, too?

I'm curious to know what difference(s) you found between the brand and generic adderalls? I was prescribed adderall and found it increased my depression. It was a generic version. I've never tried the brand version but wonder if it would work better.

Barr's generic: increased my depression significantly after about two weeks. Each day, I could feel it "kick in", and I could detect it coming down. I was very moody as it wore off, prone to mood crashes. It made me feel beyond caffinated if I took on empty stomache. On the other hand, the Shire NEVER made me feel "stimulated", even on an empty stomache, and I could never even detect it as it wore off. It helped my mood significantly (along with Emsam), and I never ever EVER felt like I was "on" something when I used it- unlike with the Barr. Just a nice augmentor to Emsam, no peaks or valleys, no mood swings, no jitteryness whatsoever. Night and day difference! As if it wasn't even the same drug or even close.
