I have been reading through various postings and was shocked at some of the amounts of Xanax people are on.
I decided to take a poll to see what the average Xanax dosage being prescribed is.
I will go first. I take 1 and 1/4 mg every night at bedtime for sleep. I am also allowed to take 1/4 mg during the day as needed for anxiety up to 7 times per day. That comes to a grand total of 3 mg per day.
I am really curious how much Xanax everyone else takes. Thanks!

Considering its short half life, no matter how much you're prescribed, if you're taking Xanax continously you have to take it at least 3-4 times a day I would imagine.
I have it prescribed PRN 0.5mg for extreme/breakthrough anxiety. I also take Valium daily on a continuous basis.

Hi yxibow,
RE our other exchanges relating to GAD: I was wondering about extreme/breakthrough anxiety compared to GAD. I'm curious because I had GAD up until 2005 when I had ECT treatments (unilateral). Afterwards, I still had GAD but with the addition of sudden panic attacks that seemed to occur in the absence of the usual triggers for me.
Buspar fixed the latter symptom, but now it seems that I can't do without it for that reason. I was wondering if I'm talking the same kind of anxiety as "extreme/breakthrough" and how Xanax and Valium are working for you in that regard.
Because I'm an alcoholic, Benzos are not prescribed for me unless I'm in detox. Those have always been Librium or Ativan. I'm wondering if Valium and/or Xanax could possibly be used after detox for this anxiety, even though they're Benzos. I have no idea what theor effects are as related to Librium and Ativan, and the studies I've looked at are completely opaque to me on this subject.
Thanks again,
Reggie BoStar

I've tried all the major benzos except valium for panic. Xanax is by far the most useful, you dont need these benzos that last 24+ hours for panic disorder, you usually need something extremely potent thats less permanent.
I take 3 doses a day so basically its like im taking a long term benzo but the power is in potency of xanax not the longevity.

i take about 6 small doses of xanax totaling 2mg a day.
for me it was a true art figuring out how to take xanax -- enough to soften the panic but not too much as to get drowsy.

0.75 to 1.25 mg/day-the extra 0.5 mg on "I can't take the panic disorder physical symptoms anymore!" days.

I take 3 mg of the XR version every night. This was my starting dose about 8 months ago (when I replaced Lunesta with Xanax XR) and I have never felt the need to increase or decrease the dose.
I also take 60 mg Cymbalta.

Bill,Please tell me, if you are male. Are you experiencing any sexual problems, I mean erectile difficulties or libido issues? I am supposed to be on 60 mg of Cymbalta by next week.
Does Cymbalta help your depression?
