I don't like mood stablizers but i have to take

Posted by Livehappy on January 21, 2007, at 20:02:28

I am on Zyprexa 5mg. I did have a small hypomanic episode when i didnt take it, it felt wonderful, but at the same time i looked at my eyes in the mirror they looked red. I was a bit irrtible and irritated. But i felt good. I finally took it that night, it went away. Slowly.

Prozac i would say is the best SSRI for me, i have been on Zoloft, Paxil (omg) im scared it, Wellbutrin which made me have nerves go to the limit [even thought that it actually is a dopamine levelizer) i never went manic on wellbutrin.

Prozac i would say is the main one that causes mania for me. But it is a works so much, i feel energized, a warm feeling, talkive, but you know there always bad days, we always have bad days.

Psychostimulants such amphetamine, dextroamphetamine are good for a "tempoary" period of time, like for 3-4 hours.

Prozac lasts all day.

But i still feel i will skeptical of it in the future.

Zyprexa does make me feel sane sometimes, when i am going overboard.

How really do you know if you bi-poler, i mean i have sudden mood changes, well not exactly but i can make myself go manic. Through thought process.

Thats is how i know when i am manic because my thoughts begin to rise and get excited and stay up and do things.

Hap.

have you considered using zyprexa as-needed? if your big problem is agitation and (hypo)mania, it seems like you might be able to do "targeted treatment" and only use neuroleptics when your symptoms are interfering with your daily life. ask your doc? that way, if you can stay on an antidepressant (or maybe go w/o other meds) w/o significant impairment, you can limit your meds to those that will keep you from going over the deep end, instead of having to take stuff everyday.

Med-empowered's advice is similar to what my pdoc has told me about zyprexa. She said some people keep it on hand for putting out fires.

Same symptoms of hypomania as me. I take klonopin prn to knock me out at night when I feel my motor going in high gear. Although, I am MUCH better since I've been on Lamictal for 5 years. Great drug for my "soft" Bipolar II. Wellbutrin made me feel like I was going to jump out of my skin. It's like a placebo for treating my dpression.

Go to Dr. Ivans Depression Central and psycheducation.org for bipolar education and Tx.

Mmmm..... you know that does sound reasonable, but alot of times i find myself feeling "dazed" or more out of control mentally. I take Alprazolam, which itself is not good for mania.

Alprazolam sometimes well, doesnt exactly push mania but doesnt help it.

Lithium.....im scared.

Zyprexa is good for now.

I am a newly diagnosed bipolar II and am on my third week of Lamictal as a mood stablizer..

I agree with the original poster.. I don't like the way lamictal makes me feel - CRAZY!!
i went from clinically depressed (anorexia, bulimia, cutting, long periods of sleep, isolation, in bed for days...) to periods of feeling as if I am INSANE!
Today my mind was racing like a greyhound, I had SERIOUS road rage, was driving recklessly and felt as if I had a bad case of Tourette's Syndrome (potty mouth..)

I'm not sure yet, maybe Lamictal hasn't had time to work it's magic, but I dont' know..

Finally I popped one of my 2mg Xanax XR's and calmed down...

Are you taking anything else with the Lamictal? Please try to hang in there and give it some time. This should wear off. I take 200mg. It's been the only mood stabilizer that has worked for me.

My entire medicinal regiment is as follows:
40 mgs Lexapro (20 mg's. in the AM, 20 mg's in PM)
50 mgs Lamictal (two 25 mg tablets at night)
4 mg's Xanax XR ( two MG's in the Am, 2 in the mid afternoon)
50 mg's Vistaril (taken at night as needed for sleep. )

I have also had VERY WEIRD dreams since taking Lamictal.... Really weird dreams that are agitating to the point that I wake up angry..
Plus, it makes me hungry (lamictal..) That scares me, being that I have an eating disorder and all...

I do take i would say much psychiatric medication.

It is embarrasing to say.

But yes i have bad bad, well not potty mouth, (sometimes), but cutting off people that cut off me, on the road of coase, I used to at one time had major panic attacks.

My current medication.

Prozac 30mg
.....ok i only take when need but Alprazolam 2mg X 3 if needed daily.
Zyprexa 5mg
Restoril 30mg PRN nighlly.

I used to have to take the 2mg bars when hell broke lose in my mind. Sometimes 3mg, but i have been talking to a psychitrist well mine for years for anxiety, if i was going nuts, and if i was going to die, i was but on Zoloft, which made things much worse, that was stupid, then Clonazepam, Lorazepam, then Alprazolam after 3 years of adjusting the dosage on each medication. I used to have to take 2mg Lorazepam (Ativan) for panic, it did not help, but it lasted for 6 hours which was ok but still did not stop chaos in my head. Xanax only lasts 2 hours for me, i dont like to take it because it really now makes me well just "down" but if im going nuts it makes me normal.

2mg bars are too much, i have to slit then in half. I'm going lower maybe to 3-4mg daily.

Anyways, huh........ i wished i was alot better.

But i have driven a mind set that everyday is going to be ok.

Then maybe just staying with prozac and thats it.

Thank you all for listen

Hap.
