Hi Folks!
Tianeptine is great for curbing my depression..... but it gives me the jitters so much I could be ringing Santa's bell for the rest of my life.
To counteract the anxiety my psy has given me some Ativan. But I'm weary of this because of the danger of dependance etc. So I'd rather try adding the anxiolitic Buspar (Buspirone).
Any thoughts, will this do the trick?
Kill off my libido?
Turn me into a big fat wobbling pudding? (yes x'mas on the mind)?Any ideas/thoughs/scientific explanations welcome!
Cheers,
Maria

Can you find a dose of tianeptine that will help your depression but not give you the jitters?
Could a lower dose do that for you?

Hi Declan,
Yes, I went down to 2 doses of Tianeptine per day instead of 3. The jitters were still there and the med was losing it's AD-effect.
So now I've upped it again to 3 per day and just recently (since Saturday) added the Buspar (2x 10 mgs). So far it's calming me down and making me sleep a heap better.
I've only recently discovered that Tianeptine has an agonistic effect on the dopamine system. This explains the increase in anxiety for me. I had the same with Bupropion (Wellbutrin). If I would have known this before hand, I'm not sure I would have started the Tia. However, it's depression quenching properties are so marvellous I won't give it up without a fight first.
What I'm however mostly worried about is what the effect of Tia and Buspar will have together. Cancel each other out? Strengthen each other? Turn me into a fat pig? Strangulate my libido?
I hope someone can shed some light on this.
Thanks,
Maria

Sounds dicey . Potential for dyskinesia here.
( some cases associated with buspirone occured early on in treatment, and took years to resolve)
Tianeptine is itself anxiolitic, and it can also after many months of treatment cause minor facial nervous twitches, eyelids and mouth, temple.
One solution could be GHB. ( try and get it legally)
I've trashed all the A.D's . Aged single malt whisky (in moderation) does the trick!

Vale,
Thanks for the explanation and warning!
But it's still a little unclear to me why the combo Tianeptine & Buspar would possibly cause dyskinesia?
Would you please care to explain the mechanisms of action?
Cheers,

Hi all,
Well, after trial & error I must conclude that tianeptine/buspar is a definate no-go area for me! The reason being that Tianeptine already causes constipation by itself and in combo with Buspar it makes is 10x worse. Last week I gained 2,7 kg - which really is a lot for just one week. Laxatives have little to no effect.
Also, the combination of Tianeptine & Buspar causes excruciating dry mouth and eyes (probably because Buspar works on the cholinergic system) and this is not tolerable with Sjogren's Syndrome. So I'll have to let it go.
Unfortunately, because whilst Tianeptine is good for depression it increases my anxiety level which Buspar seemed to quash.
So for now I'll just stick to Tianeptine and Ativan.

i haven't read the other uses responses yet, but I will tell you my experience with BUSPAR.... horrid... I only took HALF the pill prescribed to me and I was in bed for 3 days, I could not wake up.... barely made it to the bathroom and fell right back into bed....

I think the combination would be worth a try.
The herb ginkgo biloba is a serotonin uptake acellerator as well as a 5-ht1a agonist. I can see some possably synergy.
As mentioned, buspar has a low possability of causing TD like effects. It has some antagonism at d2 receptors like antipsychotics.
The risk of TD with buspar is lower than with AP's. And probably lower if you keep it on the low end of dosing.
I'd say give it a try to find out.
Not everybody responds to buspar, but some people find it very helpful.

Yeah, buspirone could cause TD...it is possible, although remote.
Tianeptine, on the other hand, wouldn't do that as it does give a mild boost to dopamine.
I've been on tianeptine for almost two years and in the beginning of treatment I did feel quite jittery as if I was having a chronic adrenaline rush (an unpleasant "rush"). That effect dissipated after about 1 week.
It happens if I increase the dose and that effect also lasts for a few days, then my body adjusts and I feel fine again. :-)
I think lorazepam (Ativan) will help you to feel calmer and is a good choice.
Good luck! :-)
