My low-dose lamictal trial seems to be making me more irritable (and giving me more acne). Has anyone experienced an initial increase in either that eventually went away along with improved depression symptoms?

You know I had a bunch of agitation that I really thought was due to the lamictal.......
it has indeed passed (I take 100mgs/day)
good luck

Hi chiron,
I'm noticing those things with Lamictal too, but as usual I'm taking something else - Testosterone - that can produce the exact same side effects.
This always seems to happen to me, so that I never figure out what causes what. Now my pdoc is going to have to chase down two scripts to figure out what's happening.
I'm having a lot of trouble urinating, too, which also could either be the Lamictal or the Testosterone.
Have you noticed this on the Lamictal?
Take care,
Reggie BoStar

i was on lamictal for a while. Started at 50mg and ended up at 300mg. I never noticed an agitation just made my stomach hurt every time i went up. I was also on it with different drugs. Wellbutrin, celexa, and effexor

Well you know my story 50mg made me excess salivate uncommon side effect of lamictal. I did notice after stopping that my anger outbursts were when on the med. Good luck to you heard it works well when it does. And it usually does. Love Phillipa

I notice agitation anytime I have increased the dose or have taken it at a different time than the time I usually take it. I cant even explain the feeling...kinda like I have restless leg syndrome throughout my body..

Sounds like akathisia:

I had the same problems but it was masked with benzos during the first two years. I only noticed the agitation when I was forced to stop taking Klonopin and it got so bad I had to stop the Lamictal too.

I tried lamictal 3 different times in 2005 and never made it past day 5. All 3 trials went exactly the same. 12.5mg first day, 25mg after that.
Day 1: Astounding unexpected antidepressant effect. Total surprise.
Day 2: Antidepressant effect continues, but weaker than day 1, and some nervousness anxiety agitation sneaks up on me by surprise.
Day 3: Antidepressant effect is gone. I feel heavy somnolence, drugged, out of it, but with intense internal restlessness anxiety at the same time.
Day 4: Severe nervousness and there is little doubt I am more depressed than where I started.
Day 5: Depression is so severe I either need to commit suicide or stop the offending medication.Lamictal was a strange one for me. Silly me, I gave it 2 more tries.
Agitation? I didn't really get that. But I have no doubt lamictal is capable of doing some very strange uncomfortable things.

Hi I'm starting Lamictal now. I had tried it a while ago and I swear it caused me agitation, but I wanted to try it again because I react adversely to everything out there and I'm now on Seroquel, so I thought it might effect me a little differently this time. First day I am noticing an antidepressant effect (which is weird cause it's just the first day!). So we'll see how it goes. I really hope this works for me because relief from the depression is soooooo wonderful, and I'm not responding well to antidepressants.

I just wanted to wish you good luck, and offer my opinion that I think it makes sense that since you have the Seroquel on board you will less likely experience the agitation from Lamictal. I'm not a doctor though, just my thoughts. herpills
