Hi to All,

I am currently tapering my zanax (6mg's per day)
under the care of an Addiction Specialist.

She is using Librium to ween me off xanax.
In 1 month I am down to 2 1/2 Mgs per day of xanax..and 125 mgs of Librium.

I also have 40 days of being alcohol free.

I didnt know that my weekly heavy binge drinking was negating the effects of my 100 mg's of Zoloft.

So....I am feeling great for the first time in years. I am on 200 mg's of Zoloft, because I have been on it for so many years...the 100 mg dose had pooped out.

As I said I feel better ( great was too strong a word) so far..more motivated, calmer and because of the 50mg's of Librium and 100mgs of Trazodone at bedtime...I am finally sleeping through the night.

The side effects include rapid weight gain.
I have gained 30 pounds in a month! Whats up with that? I also have swelling and edema in my left ankle! Whats up with that?

I have severe arthritis in both knees..so I got a Cortisone shot Friday..and my knee is starting to feel better. ( I want to work out and work off this weight AND prepare my self for Jail..so I am lifting weights, increasing my Cardio and traing on my Heavy Bag and doing my Kunf-Fu workouts every day.

Anyone else tapr with Librium before?
I know it TOO is adictive and cannot be stopped abruptly...but I am told it is an easier ween that Xanax.

Any comments, advice or experiences????

PS
I was charged with a DUI on Dec 6 ( too much xanax mixed with alcohol) so I am probabley looking at 10-20 days in County or a Half-Way house. THAT is why the rapid switch from xanax to Librium...the do not give Xanax in Jail...EVEN if it a prescription here in Ohio. They do give all the other meds I am on...just not Xanax.

Ive NEVER been to jail before....nd I am 47 years old. Any advice on that???

Thanks BF

Be good, follow all orders and maybe you will get out in half the time and offer to do community service. Good luck. Love Phillipa ps I'd heard that alchohol negated SSRI's and on paxil the one that worked I drank so I guess the benzos were actually the only meds that worked. I thought so. Love Phillipa ps I think no more ad's now

Hi Phillipa.

Actually now that the Zoloft IS working, unemcumbered by the heavy drinking..I feel much, much better! AND...I am on a THIRD of my 10 year xanax is 1 month!!!!

I am sleeping again...working out again to get in shape, and life looks "in color" again...if you know what I mean.

Jail....I dont relish it,and without my meds I dont think I could do it and keep my sanity...but thank God it happened NOW, before I was wened off all Meds. Plus....when you compare 20 days in County to the thousands who are sentanced to years in FEDERAL PRISON.....I think I can handle it

Hey Buckeye, congrats on the 40 days (and counting!) that's great.
i am very glad to hear life is in color again...i know exactly what you mean.
and i too am glad you are able to have some time to taper off meds before your jail time. and if you are strong enough to handle being sober you can handle 20 days in county! just remember 20 days... count down. but do keep to yourself.
best wishes.
b2c.

Thanks b2c....I am more worried about not having xanax after 10 years of daily use, than the Jail condition and dangers.

I will keep to myself( you are the 4rth person to give me that advice) and I will try to remember 20 days in County is nothing compared to a year ( or more) in Federal Prison!

Thanks again
