One of the best anxiety combos.....

Posted by willyee on January 13, 2007, at 21:58:25

Im in a half-half state of remission now, meaning im far far from "NORMAL" but im also not in that dark hole,im getting lots of things done and so on and so fourth one does in this state.

What helped make this possable?Well what i have been waiting on and believed.

First let me explain....

Klonopon.....

One of the most effective drugs for anxiety there is,builds up and not only provides a solid backbone, its also listed in some places as an effective mood stablizer.

Drawback??.....well it is terrable on depression,it puts a terrable restraint on gettig better,so it becomes a double edged sword.

now

Xanax.....

Effective, however shorting acting, and less of BACKBONE effect that klonopin has,so it leaves one in a bad REBOUND position.

My belief, well i see both on there own go high up in dosages,

I PERSONALY BELIEVE THESE TWO USED TOGTHER ARE.....

First extremly effective for anxiety and mood stablization.

When used properly, leave much less of a DESIRE or craving for clinical users to want more xanax.

Its almost as if they should have built in togther.

Since using this, which i have before, and sticking to the topic,i have NOT escalted my klonopin or xanax dose,i do not crave either, and i feel a MUCH more theprutic effect.

So in short,i believe the use of BOTH klonopin and xanax are a option docters should look into.I pick these two because xanax is the few benzos that actualy holds a mood lift potential, however the side effects make it a bad choice, while klonopin does the opposite.

I understand the concern of taking two very addicting drugs, however my reasoning is as follows.......

First if i go a fair amount of time and dont crave,or see my dose escalting, that is a plus.

Second i have seen plenty of times BOTH used alone in very high doses, lots of time with little success.

Last,im tired of worrying about being on a addicting meciation as life passes by,so what, cigaretters r addicting,as many other things,i choose to have a clinical addiction and at least see and live a little bit rather than be house bound,im sick of it and i simply cant take it no more.

*******I speak on this in conjunction with a anti depressant as MOST benzos are used,im not familiar with any use of benzos, either alone or combo, alone in monotherapy, however a post can only say so much*********

Are you talking about Xanax taken regularly or taken on a PRN basis for extreme anxiety? I can see how Klonopin could be effective as a scheduled medication to take every day or several times a day, but my experience with Xanax is that is causes tolerance SO quickly to the anxiolytic effects that it is best used as a PRN. Thoughts?

I have to disagree with the above about xanax as a generalized statement. Individuals react differently. Many do *not* develop tolerance to xanax. I am one. I have been on it for over 25 years and am at 1.75mg., down from 3mg and I am ready to reduce to 1.5 simply because it controls my anxiety extremely well at present ....so I am prescribed xanax monotherapy by the director of outpatient psychiatry at UMass Medical. I bet you can find many other people who take xanax this way. And of course there are many others who develop tolerance quickly and find it is a rollercoaster effect with the shorter half-life. Not me....I can go at least 8 hours between doses. Just my input.

Thanks for pointing this out. I was merely relying on the pharmacological half-lives of Xanax as compared to Klonopin but you're right, drug metabolism differences as well as many other factors influence how someone will respond to a medication.

Well this is where the benifit of the TWO come in handy, klonopin has such a longer and stable life that you dont seem to crave or build tolerance nearly as quick,(if u have that problem) because klonopin is still keeping ur steadfast till ur scheldule xanax dose.

I mean for all i know the two could even be poteniating each other,im merly speaking on experiance terms, and please readers lets not forget that,im not saying run out and do this.

Will what you say is true but klonopin depresses me so valium doesn't so use that. Love Phillipa ps the valium and xanax were at different time periods but now I get .5xanax too.

As to benzo tolerance it is pretty well established that you do develop a tolerance to it. I have been on Klon 2 years 2mg. I have never altered or upped my dose and it is still effective. Last month I switched from 4 half mg tabs to 2mg tabs since over time I developed a pattern of taking it all at night most of the time. I still halve half mg tabs. Last week I was really stressed over somethning and decided to take a half mg in the am. By mistake I took 2mg pill. No big deal but I noticed that I could fully function all day. 2 years ago 2mg in the am would have knocked me out. Keep in mind that I had taken 2mg 10 hrs earlier the night before.
