Is dopamine stimulating or sedating?

Posted by Jimmyboy on January 5, 2007, at 9:05:16

Just wondering b/c all the dopamine meds seem to cause major drowsiness.. I have experienced major brain fog/fatigue for awhile and tried Selegiline and it did nothing for that , but when I added a real smal dose of Wellbutrin the mind has cleared up somewhat, much more than with the Selegiline..

Sniplet.....

"1. Electrophoretic application of dopamine (DA) on Aplysia neurones elicits both excitatory and inhibitory effects, which in many cases are observed in the same neurone, and often result in a biphasic response."

Totally depends on the brain region, the receptor, etc.

not really.. it boosts dopamine which gives a stimulating effect but as Link already pointed out, it depends, where in the brain it occurs etc.

I was going to say, doesn't zyprexa increase dopamine- or am I mistaken? That's not exactly a stimulating med.

There are reports of some people getting spaced out and sleepy on meds such as high doses of ritalin and amphetamines, too.
