DARIs?

Posted by laima on January 4, 2007, at 16:37:49

I read about dopamine-reuptake-inhibitors on Wikipedia- anyone ever try one of these? I wonder what they are like. There's one in a "phase 2" of testing, but the other two have been banned in most of the world due to worry about abuse potential. One apparently caused acne, but the other sounded pretty alright. They also- apparently could cause euphoria before the antidepressent effects kicked in. Imagine that!

Don't TCA's inhibit dopamine reuptake (as well as serotonin and norepinephrine---perhaps on a much smaller scale?)?

Good catch though. Very interesting.

? I don't know. Wikipedia listed these as a separate class, and reading between the lines, makes them sound so effective. I wonder when we'll start to hear about the new drug being developed- starts with a "v".

I noticed that Wellbutrin inhibits dopamine and noripreniphrine (or however it's spelled).

I think some TCA's, like desipramine have some affinity for the dopamine transporter, although less (much) than for the norepinephrine transporter.

Yeah, imagine them making a medicine for sad people that actually makes us un-sad, instead of just takes away symptoms. :)

Its action is heavy on the dopamine side of things.

There are people that have used dopamine reuptake drugs as anti-depressants but i belive i read some of them have nasty side effects.

Stimulants would be the ultimate in this concept and something i've personally experianced. But once again the side effects are scary like psychosis, cardio issues, stroke, renal failure.
