As some members here know from earlier postings I was given the axe several weeks ago. Works is my best therapy against anything (second only to traveling, which is pretty expensive when you're unemployed). I worked as a senior consultant in a hi-tech company. There were two big reasons for my layoff (excluding all other excuses): impulsivity and being unable to express myself clearly. It was like talking a lot without getting to the point. But that's a chronic problem – my immediate one is to get a job, now as a team manager or – again – as a senior consultant. I've got some interviews scheduled and the thing is that I really don't function well in these. It took me 40 interviews before I got my current job and the market was much hotter back then. I was also accepted to a lower position.
What seems to go wrong in my interviews is, first of all, fear. I don't seem that outgoing as I'm usually is, and it tends to stress my interviewers as well – I can see that. That doesn't lead to anything positive. The interviewer gets offensive and my mind goes blank – I'm unable to solve even the simplest problems, I cannot recall things I've just recently done, and the whole thing becomes ridiculous. Then I might even become angry and cynical. All too bad.
So further to all the psychological work I'm doing regarding that, I'm looking for some medication that will keep me alert and calm at the same time – something that will minimized the abovementioned problems.
I was trying more benzodiazepines but that just makes me look even more stoned (I already look a bit stoned). Taking more methylphenidate makes me more alert but too edgy. Can't think of anything else.
Already taking: Paxil(paroxetine) 10 MG, Wellbutrin (bupropion) 300 MG, Concerta (methylphenidate) 36 MG, Zyprexa (olanzapine) 3.75 MG, Klonopin (clonazepam) 3.75 MG, Lamictal (lamotrigine) 200 MG
Any ideas? You help is much appreciated.

If physical nervousness is a problem( sweating, tremor in voice, fidgeting, etc.) then beta blockers like proplanolol would help, although it may dull you down like a benzo..

Well, propranolol might be a reasonable add-on (it doesn't sedate me or anything), but it wouldn't let go my gregariousness. I also can't see how is it going to relieve my anxiety: even good doses of Klonopin and/or Xanax will do not get me rid of my anxiety and tension. I seem beyond repair....

welcome to the club. there is a solution for everybody, some take longer than others. i've been on this board for probably 4 years give or take? I've had my ups and downs, but still need it every once in a while, as I'm sure many do.

Sure... been around here on and off since 2001 I think (maybe earlier), never found THE solution but this issue of what to take for an interview is pretty urgent. I'm in (small) debt and I need a job in my field. There should be some pharmacological tricks for such an interview, I just can't come up with anything. I mean, SOMETHING. I have tried many stuff but still can't come up with a particular combination. Something to keep me cool, highly focused yet relaxed - the usual me excluding interview contexts... any ideas?

What about hypnosis .. or rehearsing the interview with others and in your mind over and over again , coming up with ideas of how ou want to react in every situation , so when the time comes you will be prepared? I know its no drug fix, but that has helped me in the past ..
Or , as impossible as it sounds, convince yourself that its not that important and you don't give a damn about it and you could maybe not be so nervous..

I take propranolol for interviews. Cuts a lot of the
somatic effects for anxiety. I figgdet less. I think Provigil would be a good option but I have not had a chance to do an interview on. Taking atavin is tricky, I prefer propranolol for interviews. Otherwise I would take ativan.
