Was wondering if you could take a stimulant , like Provigil/Adderall/Ritalin and also take a benzo. The only thing that can lift me out of the brain fog is a stimulant, but I get real nervous, fast heart beat, sweaty, and overfocused when I do , so its like trading being a zombie for being a nervous wreck. Could I take a benzo to take the edge off of the stimulant and get a nice clarity without the overstimulation?
If so , are there any benzo's that would be better than others- that is , I have Xanax and Klonopin. Which would be better?
Thanks,
JB

>Yes. I take focalin and sometimes add a little bit of xanax. The key is to find a dose that takes the edge off the jitteriness without making you sleepy. Also, can you take a lower dose of your stimulant to avoid the jitters?
You might also consider a beta blocker. I take a low dose of atenolol with the focalin.

Some people take stimulants for ADD/ADHD and at the same time take benzos for anxiety.

its not an uncommon med combo. Some people find this kind of thing works well for them. However, if you are supersensitive to stimulants, it seems like you might want to try lower doses or approach your ADHD from another angle.
Provigil helps some people w/ ADHD, often w/o the same side effects (or less intense side effects) than one would experience with Ritalin or the amphetamines. Straterra is another option, and tricyclic antidepressants are still another option..some people are also helped by Wellbutrin, but I imagine it would have pretty similar side effects to standard-dose stimulants.
Good luck.

Yes, that combo has been discussed a lot on Psychobabble. Some of the best posts on that have been written by Viridis, a great poster who seems to post less these days. Anyway, Adderall, Klonopin worked very well for him, and he eventually added Lamictal to the mix. You might search for his posts. >Hi
If you "get real nervous, fast HB" then maybe it's the stim you are taking?
SOME find Dextroamphetamine 'smoother' than say Ritalin, SOME find Ritalin more centrally acting than Dex with less tacacardia.
A stim+benzo is a very common combo allowing the user the benefits of a centered feeling from the stim and any anxiety produced, treated by the benzo.
This is the end of the thread.
