What type of anxiety is this? HELP!!

Posted by UgottaHaveHope on January 1, 2007, at 21:26:58

What type of anxiety is this called? All day long, just about every day, I worry about worry. In other words, I dont know what I fear, but I do fear and my body is always in a panic mode. It's like walking through a haunted house and know you are going to get scared, but you dont know when or where. You just fear. My mind races and races, just gets all cranked up. I become distant and it is difficult for me to be in the present moment. Is this "cycling"?

Then when I am overwhelmed with anxiety like that, it makes me want to retreat. When I retreat and become reclusive, it makes me depressed. This is just a vicious cycle that has repeated itself over the past 10 years. The only med that has touched it is Seroquel, it was like being shot by an elephant dart. However, when I am worked up like I am now, the Seroquel (400mg) really doesnt do much.

My grandmother was BP1. Three or four different docs tested me for the same thing, and all said I did not have BP1 or BP2. They said I might have a little touch of BP2, but not much. My pdoc said he is considering putting me on Ensam. Do you think that is a good idea with my mind in overdrive? Doesnt Ensam increase anxiety? He also wants me to meet with a CBT therapist.

Thanks in advance for any responses. I really appreciate everyone on this board.

Sounds like GAD to me. GAD is a form of chronic anxiety where the patient is constantly anxious, tense, and worried. Although stressful events can make GAD worse, people with GAD are anxious even if everything is going great in there lives. Gad is often accompanied by depression. Some of the most common meds used are of course benzos, busbar, and many of the AD's. I also think you are suffering with some type of OCD (not the classic w/rituals) as well. I'm sorry you have to go through this and i hope you are feeling better soon.

I agree, sounds like GAD. My therapist told me that the sort of shutting down you describe (ie, getting out of present moment) is a common response.

I don't know where that anxiety is coming from. It sounds fierce.

If you jump over to the Alternative Board and ask the same question, I do have a couple natural supplement suggestions. They are not likely ones you have heard much about but they are very effective and easily available. People withdrawing from opioids, stimulants, benzos, and nicotine can have viscious anxiety. One of these herbs is used during those withdrawals.

I only mention this strategy because it does stand a good chance of working and it is cheap, easy, fast, and free of the heavy duty side effects of meds.
