Hi,
My doctor wanted me to take Zyprexa regularly with an SSRI. Two reasons I wouldn't, one of the reasons is although it helps great with anxiety and to some degree depression when I take 10mg now and again when I initially take it, the two days after I feel emotionally numb (which in some ways is welcome). I was just wondering does this feeling persist if you take it regularly?
Thanks....Denise

Yes. 9 years it still does. That is why I quit taking it or reduce dose some times.

Every now and then we hear of someone who feels great on zyprexa. But for the most part it does seem to numb emotions. I could go on to talk about all the negative things I have to say about zyprexa but I won't clutter up your thread with that.
Was it mind numbing to me? Yes.

Yes me too, after four years. Sebastian how do you manage to 'quit taking it'? You make it sound so easy, almost casual, and you've been on it for NINE! years? Didn't you get any withdrawal symptoms?

all antipsychotics numb emotions...that's an integral part of their action. I was only on zyprexa briefly (akathisia hit), but I found it even more numbing, and at lower dosages, than, say, Abilify. I think its b/c the drug is so sedating and b/c it has such a wide range of receptors it affects--the overall effect seems to be soothin and numbing. This is probably a good thing short term--for some people, this might be even better than valium--but long term...I think the numbing could only be detrimental; one needs emotions to be able to deal with the outside and inner-world.
Good luck.

Yes I get very bad withdraw symptoms. Only the first two years I would just stop taking it for 4 months at a time, I would go compleatly psychotic and afraid to leave the house. The other years I was only able to cut the dose down for a while. I actualy think it is good to do that once in a while to get intouch with your self, and experience life.
