I've never taken a benzo before and I'm really scared about taking this. What should I do? I'm pretty wound up about it.
Argh!
Any ideas? Could I just take 1/4 of a pill? I have 15mg pills.
Are they safe? Whats going to happen to me once I take it?

i'd say relax. Try to take it only when you need it, and then only as much as you really need. "Addiction" to benzos or anything is more likely in people who lack adeqaute support systems and coping mechanisms and who have chaotic lives...just look @ the tranquilizer as a temporary, albeit very effective, fix for what ails you. Instead of being afraid of the pills, look at them as tools to help you get where you want to go.

If you take a sedative, you might be less anxious about taking the oxazepam......hey wait.

Thanks!
Yes, I'm not worried about addiction, I'm too $^^@*£* scared to take the things in the first place!!! Petrified in fact!Oh well.
I've decided to have a beer instead, well I at least with that I know what I'm in for with that. And yes, that is a slippery slope too I know!
And I do realise how pathetic it is that I'm scared of benzos, but hey. I'm scared of all drugs in fact.
EEEeek.

Do you mean take a sedative like a benzo or something else and then the benzo?
I do realise that once I got the damn thing past my throat my anxiousness will hopefully subside, but its the getting it into my mouth thats the hard part and not panicking immediately after I swallow it!
Oh good grief I'm crazy. I've been burnt so much by meds that taking a simple benzo is bloody hard.

Hi :-)
sometimes when I take an extra pill of clon I put it under my tongue to get a faster response. I'm not sure if the clon is absorbed through the tissue into the blood or if it's just resolved quicker and then is swallowed/flushed down along with the saliva.
Try to put a pill of oxazepam under your tongue, this way you can spit it out at anytime, you should feel a calming effect from it rather quickly. Simply let the whole pill resolve under your tongue or as long as you can.Hope this helps,
Mattias

I'm having a beer. At least I'm not nervous about that!!! I know I know, but hey, I'm European, we drink.
Thanks for the quick replies m_e and link. I really appreciate it.
I just have this knot in my stomach and this impending sense of doom that something bad is about to happen :o(
oh well.
I yearn for the days when I was carefree and could do anything! And the things I did, well at least you can't say I didn't live. It seems like a different era back then. What happened? I could hitch hike, sleep in a bush (I mean in the wilderness!), drink water from streams....now I can't cope if I haven't washed my hands before...well anything! Let alone drink water from streams, or hitch hike or anything like that etc etc. I had such fun. Oh well.
I hope I won't be like this for the rest of my life, but its a sobering thought that I will.
Whats the point? oh well.

Being too anxious to take your anxiety pills is like forgetting to take your memory pills.

Moikka!
Tensor thats a fantastic idea. That is so good! Yeah I can spit it out at any time and as soon as I feel the effects I'll get less nervous about the whole thing. And it'll be just under my tongue....and I can see what it feels like....I could have it there a little while, wait half an hour or so...or whatever.....
Anyway I've given up on trying the Ox tonight I've just had a 500ml can of Becks rather quickly (yes I know, hardly Lapin Kulta or Karhu or Koff but hey, I like Becks!) and its gone straight to my head, what can I say I'm a girl and I get drunk very easily!!
So all is well with the world. Its such a relief to feel slightly relaxed!!!!!!!!!
Anyway.

I know I know its faintly amusing.... very ironic....but I can't help it!!!! I know its completely irrational. i know that once I've got past the initial fear, the benzo will kick in and I will be okay, but man, its the initial fear..... well anyway, these things are irrational aren't they?
I like tensor's idea through.

I apologise for my use of colourful language...well one related to 'blood'. I didn't realise it would show up.... will I get a PCB warning now? I'm not sure on the rules I don't know if American's class it as a swear word or not...... ?

I managed to take around a 1/4 of a pill this evening. Which is quite an accomplishment for me, I can tell you! Yes, it feels very nice like a huge weight been lifted from my shoulders. Do normal people feel like this? Wow, life is so much easier when you're relaxed! Anyway I think I deinfately felt an effect in there because I got up to make a sandwich from my desk and I felt slightly stoned. Yeah stoned is the word I'd use. And I got ever so slightly more talkative. Obviously with it being such a low dose it could have been a placebo effect, but I think not.
Anyway I know its such a small dose, but I'm one of those souls who doesn't need much of a med to get the effects. Well if an 1/8 of a pill is all it takes, these pills will last forever!
And now its 10pm and I feel healthily slightly tired, like you're supposed to when its 10pm.
Well I've had a relatively nice evening actually, normally I'm all tensed up and worried and too scared to even make a sandwich. Now I think I can!

Good luck.

>Hi Meri-Tuuli,
If you take a substance sublingual (under the tongue) there will be no first pass by the liver because the substance will go directly into the vena cava inferior, heart, lungs and then the arteries. With oxazepam it doesn't play a role but with other substances a metabolization by the liver could be necessary due to some reasons.
Good luck!
