Ok - I know doctors are big on mood stabilizers and I understand why - but...
I haven't found one that really works. Some of them actually make me mean, irritable and downright manic.
So, how can a mood stabilizer be essential?I felt more stable and happy on some of the ssris.

It sounds as though you'd be better off on an SSRI then Trish if you could tolerate them. Have you tried taking a urinary anaesthetic like Kava with the SSRI to help numb the cystitis pain?
Also I've found fish oil to be quite an effective mood stabilizer and I'm bipolar.

My doctor says I am BP II - which is probably true. So I guess I do need a mood stabilizer. I just really feel in denile sometimes about the whole issue.
I wish I could take Lamictal, but I get a weird reaction to it as well.
I just need to counteract the irritabiity I get with the Abilify. My husband really wants me to get the bitchiness under control. I agree.

>What kind of reaction did you have to Lamictal? Many people who have reactions, etc.. try it again and tirate it slower and you might have success this time. Thats what I did and it worked. I've been on it for 5 years. No weight gain. I have recently decreased it to from 200mg to 100mg and added 1mg of klonopin at night. My vision is less blurred and I wake up feeling more refreshed. I actually feel I have more energy and my mood swings I get around my period are much improved. I would use klonopin when needed, but I'm sticking with it routine for now. Klonopin has always been an old faithful for me.
Polarbear,
Bipolar II (soft)
SAD
Effexor 300mg Morning, Lamictal 100mg @ Hs
Klonopin 1mg @ HsWalk 1 hour 5 days a week with my three dogs. Use light therapy sometimes when I feel lethargic in the morning, however getting outside for my walk helps just as much if its a sunny day. In fact exercise is very important overall for boosting your mood when you have depression. It is a part of my lifestyle, I can't live without it!!!
