Not sure I can quit...

Posted by TrishP on December 5, 2006, at 7:12:49

Ok - I have a call in to my doc and he didn't call me back yesterday. I guess he will call me today.

Even though I hate the awful, shaky, akathesia I am having from the Abiify I'm not sure I can quit it. It has other negatives for me like making me irritable and easily angry, BUT it also has given me back a sex drive.

I'm going to tell the doc this today when he calls. Maybe there is something else he can add to it to just make me a little nicer person.

Geodon and Lamictil also did this to me, but I don't remember akathesia.

Would I have to add 2 more drugs? One to stop the akathesia and one to make me nice?

You could try an anticholinergic such as benztropine or trihexyphenidyl for akathisia. Maybe suggest it to your pdoc and hear what he has to say about it.

The nurse called me this morning and said she was calling me in some Cogentin for the shaky feeling. She said it may also (hopefully) help the bitchy irritabiliy I get sometimes.

Now, I just need to get rid of the hunger the Abilify gives me! I've gained 6 lbs in over a month!

Any suggestions on Abilify hunger?!!!!

Cogentin is benztropine :-) I hope it works well for you. The weight gain is a problem for many of us. I use powder substitution to replace two meals a day and it works for me.

Hi Trish,
I'm glad your doc was responsive to you about the shakes. Please do post how the cogentin does with this. And I may have missed a post, but are your shakes sort of an internal, weak feeling versus an observable tremor? I've been getting shakes with lithium. They feel sort of like the shakiness I get with low blood sugar, but it's not related to blood sugar. It feels a bit like muscles that have been overworked and are shaky, but it's not my limbs so much as it is my torso area. It's hard to describe. My pdoc had never heard of this with lithium, and I'm not sure he even could understand what I was describing. Anyway, if Cogentin helps you with this and they are similar, maybe I can suggest it to mine?

Good luck,

gg

Trish,

Can you compare Abilify and Geodon for me? I am having similar problems with Abilify. Did you gain weight on Geodon? Did you stop taking it because it didn't work for you? Thanks...
