Lexapro brought me out of depression, but did nothing for OCD symptoms, and i couldn't sleep one minute.
What is closest to, but less stimulating. Perhaps all the chemists around here know the molecular make up of em all.
regards,
Brian

I know you said not Celexa, but FWIW my pdoc was just telling me that some people find Celexa less stimulating than Lex. So, if you haven't tried it, it might be worth a shot. Other than that, my impression that the SSRI's are sort of hit or miss. It can be very specific to the individual. That said, Paxil is supposed to be good for anxiety. That might be a good try too. I personally found it more sedating than stimulating.
Best,
EE

I found Lexapro and Celexa very similar in long term use, but like you I found Lexpro was stimulating. Celexa is a mix of two molecules l-citalopram and d-citalopram that are mirror images of eachother - like left hand and the right hands. Lexapro contains only one isomer, which manufacturer claims is responsible for Celexa's beneficial effects, while the other allegedly causes side effects.
Paxil is said to be more sedating but tends to have more severe side effects. Luvox is quite good for OCD and has a *relatively* benign side effect profile.
It's very hard to say accurately because people respond to the SSRIs in very different ways. You may find Celexa less stimulating and more tolerable than Lexapro. I would recommend you give it a try if you're looking for a similar side effect profile to Lexpro.

Sorry Emily Elizabeth and Phillipa, it seems you both posted a similar message while I was still busy typing mine! I guess this means many people are thinking the same thing with reagrds to Luvox and Paxil.
