And if so can naltrexone prevent this (there was a babble thread on this a few years ago...just wondering if anything's evolved since)?Does anyone just take an SSRI for years on end with good results?
Peace

Yes. I have heard this. But I think SSRI's are, on the whole, weak drugs.

sure,
some people take the same ssri's for years.
just not the people who come here.
my sister has taken zoloft for about 8 years and she is fine.
me, i melt down over and over and the depression creeps in again. i will research naltrexone
my med doc is mad at me
now med docs and their treatment resistant patients --- that is a weird dynamic

> I suppose there are some lucky ones..but not many. I look at it this way, the drugs still work, but our bodies/brains have a built in mechanism that resists foriegn substances that enter our bodies. So i believe this happens with different medications, and not just antidepressents. I personally am not one of the lucky ones..i need to change most psychotropic meds every 8-12 mos. Maybe i'm more evolved..lol.-MJ
or less..;)

Bingo!!!! Does the fact that I have had an elevated ANA autoimmune diseases mean my body rejects the antidepressants? I'm stretching it but looking for an answer? Love Phillipa ps never a poop out they just don't work. And I wonder if the lymes disease altered my chemistry for good?

Oh they do work my Dear..for some people anyway. How long do they work is the question? Remember, this is a multi-billion dollar industry (in antidepressents alone) they have to working for somebody!

My wife is very successfully stabilized (after an immobilizing depressive episode) for over 6 years on effexor and wellbutrin. The only relapses I have had in 7-9 years is when I went off the meds (lexapro and then paxil). When I last relapsed the Lexapro did not appear to work very well on reinitiation but a switch to paxil was very successful. good Luck

I've taken mine for about five years. Overall I have not been depressed these five years. Some mini-episdoes have occured, usually directly related to life stressor or losses, but I bounce back fast.
If I try to get pregnant, I will go off them, otherwise I will just stay on them for now.
I think people who have success don't come here too often, simply because things are fine and there are no burning questions or crises.

I've been on prozac for 7 years. There have been times when my psychiatrist and I have had to jockey with the dose.
Sometimes we go up in dose for one month and then back down, sometimes we drop the dose for one month then back up.
The only real trouble I have had with Prozac is when I go off of it against doctor's advice.
Sometimes I think I sound like a walking advertisement for prozac, but it really worked for me.
This is the end of the thread.
