Help with Adderall/Provigil...!!!

Posted by tgo on November 27, 2006, at 22:48:43

I have been taking generic adderall 20 mg - 30 mg for 3 weeks now. Not for ADD, but for energy because I'm tired ALL the time. (I take prozac also and it's not the prozac making me tired, as the tiredness has been present for years, even when not on meds)

Sometimes I have taken a few days break from it as it seems to not be near as strong as the first couple days I took it and I've also been drinking tea during the day as the caffeine helps boost my energy with it (that seems to help it kick in after it started to lose it's potency).

I get a headache after a couple hours every time I take it. I really don't want to be taking ibuprofen everyday. I split the dose of adderall into two doses to help it last longer through the day.

Anyone who has taken adderall, can you tell me if the headaches will go away, or since I'm still having them at this point, does that mean they won't be going away? The adderall does help my energy and mood, so I'd like to try to stay on it.
Does anyone know if it causes any harm to the brain? I've been a bit worried that it will harm my dopamine receptors.

I see my doctor in a little over a week, so I will discuss this with her then, but any advice or experiences anyone has would be helpful in the meantime.

My doctor had initially recommended Provigil. I declined since I have taken it before at 200 mg and though it was helpful, when it wore off after 3 hours, I would always get a bad headache and become irritable. Has anyone been able to overcome these side effects of provigil? And would it be helpful to take two does of 200 mg throughout the day? Is that too much to take? I really didn't notice much effect when I tried taking 100 mg twice a day.

I can afford the generic adderall but really can't afford provigil, but maybe I could get assistance from the company that makes it. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether it would be better to take adderall or provigil? Again, I'm kind of worried about whether the adderall will damage my brain and the headaches.

It is essential that I take my Provigil in a split dose; the whole 200 is too much at once and doesnt last all day anyway so I take 100 in the morning and 100 more after lunch. Also, I have seen on other sites where some people take very large doses. You might try Remedyfind for that information. I dont know about the Adderall...

Good luck

Suzie,

Thanks for the response about provigil. Do you get headaches and irritability when it wears off?

Can anyone help with my adderall questions?

No, I have not noticed any of that.

Interesting, as i just read Provigil has a 12 hour half life..one dose should cover you all day. You could try taking 300 mgs. in the morning and see what happens. Or, taking 2 doses of 200 mgs a day should be fine. That's what i would try. Good luck to you.

Headache are usually blood pressure change related when dealing with amphetamines.

I'd try dexedrine personally, its a much cleaner feeling drug.

Provigil isn't a stimulant. Officially it is an Alpha 1-adrenergic agonist. It's also known as a "engeroic drug."

Well that would make sense since my blood pressure is normally quite low and adderall is known to increase blood pressure. I'll have to ask about dexedrine. Thanks for the advice. Would you recommend dexedrine over provigil?

I've never tried provigil as its price tag is a little to steep for me. But really if your doctor is willing to prescribe amphetamines why step down to a less "activating" substance?

Dexedrine is widely used for narcoleptics and the serious ad/hd cases. Plus its much simpler and less problamatic from chemical standpoint.

I would agree with this. Provigil from my personal experience is pretty weak. Let's just say it, by itself is not strong enough to battle serious depression.

I'm actually taking the adderall for energy. I'm had very low energy for years now. I take it with prozac.

A couple people on the alternative board actually told me low energy is pyschosomatic!! I don't think if it were psychosomatic, it would be this way for years. And that would mean all those chronic fatigue people are imagining their condition... It's frustrating when people make comments like that.

Anyway, I didn't have any caffeine yesterday or today and no headache!!!! So, I think I've found my solution - yea!
