Lexapro has been the only med to lift me out of depression in a long time. How ever, it does not help racing thoughts or OCD, plus i could never sleep on lexapro.
Celexa on the other hand helps OCD, and regulates sleep, but has no effect on depression.
Doc says fine to mix the two, and hopefully reap the benefits of both.
Strange, opposite reactions, yet the "same" drug.
Thoughts, opionions welcome.

Celexa I took for a month and dragged myself around. Lexapro made my head feel like a space cadet. And it's the same med? Love Phillipa

Amazing that one "inactive"(yeah right) isomer could cause completely opposite effects.

> BrianI think just the slightest most miniscule change in a molecule can result in significantly different results. When they tweeked the celexa molecule into lexapro, they made a whole new drug with different effects as far as I'm concerned. They may feel the same to one person, or feel really different to someone else. At a molecular level I just don't think we or scientists really know what tweeking a molecule is capable of doing.
Since both drugs have different effects on you, my opinion is to take both and see if you can get benefits from both. The trick will be to get the right ratio of celexa vs lexapro, more of one and less of another, equal doses, or whatever.

If it works, do it. As you probably know, Lexapro simply is Celexa minus a molecular form of the molecule that is inactive and therefore really an "impurity". Sort of like taking a caffeine tablet instead of getting caffeine from coffee. But who cares about theory? I'd wear purple sneakers and drink goat's milk every morning if it made me feel less anxious and depressed.

Yes, im baffled why the opposite reactions i have, as do many.
I do know many many doctors and PDOCS that would argue that they are different at all (minus that lex might work quicker), and more of a marketing ploy right before pattent was up.
