I am temporarily switching from Lexapro to generic Celexa until I can get insurance again. (Lexapro is $170 a bottle!) Has anyone had problems with this? I heard they are essentially the same med.

hi,
this is an extremely long thread about lexapro:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20020609/msgs/109458.html
which tells much much more than everything you would ever want to know about it, including hundreds of us exploring it shortly (from immediately to when i tried it) after it first came out.i read the whole thing when i was going through my adaptation side effects in the spring of '03.
i will have been on 10 milligrams of lexapro for four years come this April.
~ your smilage may vary
p.s. i have not taken celexa.

I've done it with no problems at all. They have EXACTLY the same effect. Celexa contains two isomers of citalopram ("left handed" and "right handed" versions if you will) and only one of them is a drug. Lexapro is "purified" Celexa that contains only the active isomer.
You can switch between these meds with absolutely no problems at all, if you keep in mind that the Celexa dose is 2x the Lexapro dose. So if you were on 20mg Lexapro, take 40mg Celexa.
