My pdoc gave me a sample bottle of Pexeva and said that paxil's tradmark was up and that another company had put this out. They can't be the same as the patent is up. So what is this med? Thanks, Love Phillipa

Paroxetine mesylate. No particular difference from paroxetine hydrochloride.JDS Pharmaceuticals is a small company in NYC, led by someone who used to be VP at Pfizer.
Paxil has now a patent extender as Paxil CR. Go Pharma. Um...yeah. Innovation in the 21st century.
And there is also generic paroxetine hydrochloride from Teva under the usual exclusivity period until other generic makers enter the market if the choose.

Thankfully, we haven't yet been subjected to Pexeva in the UK. Generic paroxetine HCl is manufactured by many different companies and is now very inexpensive.

Hi PJ
Pexeva and Paxil contain different 'salts' of the same drug. There are no clinically important differences between Paxil and Pexeva.

It needs to be a "least patentable difference". A dissolving pill or extended release would do as does
using a different salt.
