I've been on 150mg Effexor pday for about a month. Pdoc increased the dosage to 225mg pday a week ago. Since then, I've done nothing but walk around in a half asleep state. I've developed muscle twitching in my arms and legs that is pretty severe. Yesterday, I had hives all over the inside of my mouth. Anyone out there experiencing this?

You're probably experiencing NE overload. Have you ever tried Cymbalta instead (I could never stand Effexor myself)?
The twitching is not surprising...
Internal dermatological conditions should probably be seen by a dermatologist, that sounds more serious than a minor arm rash, at least to me.

Jay seriously tell me about the twitching as it happens to me each night in bed even on low dose luvox. Not restless leg syndrome. Thanks Love Phillipa

Yes more about the twitching please & explain what NE overload is. My "twitching" is more jerking and is quite severe the closer to bedtime I get.

Hi KristiVegas. I'm on it also.
Is this your first time on it?
How long have you been on it?
I have an increase in 'tremor' I believe.
There's another thread here re: it.

It's my first time on Effexor. I've been on it about 2 months (started on Welbutrin but it aggravated my reflux). I've been on Paxil and Zoloft but both made me sick.

Oh, I'm sorry. You say above how long you've been on it! Duh!
I'm sure you plan to call your P tomorrow and tell him the increase has caused you to 'walk around in a half asleep state' and about physical side effects.
Lots of peeps have trouble w/ Effexor-XR side effects as you prob' can see by other thread and long old thread.
I'm one of the few that usually hasn't.
Although, I am not feeling the relief I had expected, this, prob' 5th time on it. Each time I've been on it, I've gotten different reactions, and I really don't know why, maybe because of coinciding meds I'm on.
I hope you find some relief soon. Keep posting.

My "twitching" is more jerking and is quite severe the closer to bedtime I get.NE -- norepinephrine, may be increased to a point intolerable to your system. Since its a dual agent, 5HT -- serotonin, also can cause twitching too, but I would say NE I think is a greater culprit.
As for the SSRI Luvox, no SSRI is "completely clean" and doesn't brush transmitters that it doesn't need to, hence common side effects like nausea, twitching, sweating, etc.
These in themselves, unless we are talking rampant leg thrusts or something (more an extraordinarily rare EPS or pseudo-TD reaction), are not completely harmless, but are not life threatening. Even without medication we twitch from time to time, our eyes twitch, we may have facial tics that are not medically driven, the body just randomly fires neurotransmitters. So its hard to establish a completely causality unless one has just upped a dose or started a medication in the last week.
But, if it gets to the point of unbearableness, maybe the dose is too high, or maybe it is not a medication you can challenge at this point in time. Cymbalta is a little "cleaner" than Effexor which is a bit more harsh of a medication in my opinion. But some people respond to the high strungness that can come from Effexor as a mild stimulant. Its individualistic, of course.-- tidings and best wishes
