I had posted a message quite a while ago about whether champagne was safe with MAOI's or not. The literature had said whites were safe, but reds weren't, but said nothing about champagne. I got no responses, but eventually decided to try it starting with small amounts and then increasingly larger amounts to see if I had any reaction whatsoever.
I am happy to report that, at least for me, champagne presents no problem. This has been true for both regular champagne and rose champagne. I have not tried a full-blown sparkling red.
I take 80 mg of Parnate daily.

I've never had a problem with white wine, champagne, or any of the reds I drink (cabernet, zinfandel, merlot, shiraz). When I drink wine, I never have more than 2 or three glasses over the course of an evening, so I don't know if quantity makes a difference as far as tyramine levels and reactions.

> MavsFanActually, the latest (well, now 10 years old) literature clearly states that wine of any kind (yes, even chianti) is safe to drink with MAOI's. Of course, as with any antidepressant, one shouldn't overdo it due to alcohol's depressant effect.
