effexor xr withdrawl

Posted by yabby on October 7, 2006, at 21:33:31

I have been taking 75mg for 3 years. Stopped cold turkey 6 days ago. I have been feeling kind of sick to my stomach, tired, and my head feels like it is dizzy or light headed, especially when I turn my head. Also vivid dreams. How long will this last?

What you are experiencing is pretty common. You are lucky that you are not suffering worse. Withdrawal from Effexor usually sets in around 3 days after discontinuation. You are probably seeing the worst of it - hopefully. My guess is that you will start to feel better within the next few days, and then gradually improve over the course of a week or two. Believe it or not, it can take quite a few weeks for some people. You just never know. However, it seems like you have a mild to moderate case.

What prompted you to go cold-turkey? Did your doctor suggest a gradual taper?
