Just for the record, i would like
to write here, that i have been fortunate
to have the doctor that i do for 25 yrs; Because
he treats a mentally ill patient as a
person with a problem first, and a
mentally ill alien later :-).I have been lucky to receive
the respect and treatment, which i
may not have had with a "scientist
neurologist" type.I have had my insecurities, due to
common criticism of this approach (you
may be familiar with the controversies
over which treatment is the best on the net),
but on reconsideration, i think it should
be noted that i am very well. Some
cases have not been so lucky. So, consideration for the patient, close
to accurate diagnosis, medication that
is tolerated, and respect for the person's
feelings and thoughts about the treatment
and how he copes with it... got that :-)p.s. when my dr. said i did not need a
psychiatrist, i now realize that *that*
was a compliment;Squiggles

That's wonderful, Squiggles. I'm glad you have that working relationship with a good doc. I wish that for everyone. I think your point that he treats you as a person first and foremost is huge. That stance makes such a difference in client/doctor interactions.
I wish I'd had that with my newly ex-pdoc. Not to be self-promoting, but see http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/psycho/20060926/msgs/692077.html if you want to laugh with me about it. Right now it's either that or go all screaming banshee on her.
Kudos to your doc and thanks for sharing your positive experience.

There's something to be said for that approach, sometimes. I finally got through to my old T in Chicago when I stood up, shouted at him, and stormed from the office with 30 minutes to go in the session. He was much more attentive after that!
