Hello. I am currently taking Xanax XR in the dosage of .5 mg/4x day. This has been prescribed for Generalized Anxiety, Panic Disorder, stress, worry, racing thoughts, etc.
I would like to know if it has helped any of you with your anxiety issues. It has helped me with mine but I still occasionally experience bouts of anxiety and panic. So I am wondering how it is working for others.
Thanks so much for reading.
Take good care and God Bless!
Sincerely,
CA 2 NJ

That seems funny-the idea of the XR formulation is to have you take it once a day (according to the manufacturer) or at most, twice. I was taking 4 mg Xanax per day and still having anxiety. I think upless you're willing to take more Xnanx than is pruden, you will still be anxious sometimes. I also found the XR formulation much inferior to the immediate release formulation-I don't know why. My experience with panic disorder is that an AD is a very important addition-just benzos by themselves don't work that well. Best of luck!

Lexapro completely eliminated panic for me after a while. No more need for xanax.

I was told that it didn't release evenly so people on the long acting had to add short acting too. It worked well for me for years the regular. Love Phillipa

Hi Phillipa. If ADs aren't working do you think it would work to just take benzos? My doctor told me she has a patient who has done OK on them for years. I know everything comes with a price but what do people do when the ADs don't work anymore? Thanks.....Philip

Reminds me of a doc who said he had lots of panic disorder folks that AD's just didn't work for (he got tired of prescribing SSRI's and getting a call from the emergency room that the person had gone into a state of unmanagable high anxiety), so he'd put them of ca. 6 mg Xanax and they would seem to lose both their anxiety and depression symptoms. There would be a long withdrawal if that became necessary...but if it works, damn, it's worth it.
Oddly enought, I think you can stimulate yourself out of anxiety-I know that doesn't make sense-but Wellbutrin and Prozac stimulate me enough that I don't really care if I have a period of panic.

No you don't!!!! And for years all I took were benzos. Then my stupid thyroid went and I let the doc convince me I needed an ad. Oh and I was drinking beer nightly but functioning extremely well and sleeping well, and happy. Now I'm miserable. Love Phillipa

Hi Phillipa.
Do you think I could stay off the ADs(SSRIs) by staying on the benzos for awhile? I started 5mg of Elavil at night to help me sleep while I see if it makes any difference with the anxiety. I can't tell if using lorazepam @ .5-1mg every 2-3 days is adding to my anxiety or not. I've used them that way for about 2 months now and I don't know if that's having an impact during this or not. They work really well at calming me down. A friend of mine has used low dose Elavil for years with sleep (25mg) and says it works for him. He's in his 60's.
Thanks......Philip

I don't know. We're all different and I don't know much about TCA's elavil. Why not start a thread on Elavil and ask all the others who may not be on this thread. They may have a lot of experience with the TCA's elavil. Love Phillipa

My doc prescribed klonopin for me during a period of high anxiety in addition to my standard prozac. It proved to be a lifesaver for me. I've found klonopin has been the only thing that quiets the grinding in my head.
Also, if I take klonopin before bed, I wake up in the morning peaceful and strangely in a good mood.
I know the benzos are hard to withdraw from, but they really worked for me.

Sounds like a Big Vote for going back to the benzos and beer (B&B), Phillipa. Remind the doc who the customer might be...

Klonopin has helped me sleep for over a year. But not addressing any other issues for me. Did (prior medication) your anxiety get better in the evening?
This is the end of the thread.
