Oxazepam (Serax) for sleep ?!

Posted by Larz on September 12, 2006, at 12:43:02

Hello, I have problems staying asleep. I wake up like 3 hours after I go to bed, usually I can return back to sleep, just to wake up again after 2 hours or so... Sometimes though it gets difficult to return to sleep again.
I just want to know if anyone has any experience with taking oxazepam for sleep problems, and what is the right dose that helped you?

oxazepam has a long onset and didn't work to well for me, I needed to take between 90-120mg 4-5 tabs to get any effect from it and then it only has a medium half life so I found it pretty useless. If you haven't tried valium for sleep give that a go, it works great for me

It's not bad for getting you to sleep at 15mg, but you might wake a few hours later. On the plus side it doesn't leave you spaced out the next day. Just my opinion.

yes that very is true about not feeling spaced out the next day, but like you said, I did keep waking up throughout the night

Have you tried ambien?

I wake up several times during the night, and I've finally decided that-- I'll just take half an ambien or, at the end of the night, sonata (which has a very short halflife)-- and be done with it.

Works for me-- most of the time.

I find ambien more effective than xanax or valium-- or lorazepam-- although I often use a little xanax with the ambien to get to sleep the first time.
