I started taking topamax 50mg am & pm & like a miracle I did not have headaches every day. I suffered from migranes and daily headaches. I've had a head aches of some kind for nearly 35 years, straight. For me to go one week with out a headache was a miracle so when two months rolled by then 3 I was elated then it stopped. I also have sinus problems, had surgery, that helped some, but I still have headaches & have migrane today. My Dr. said most people have EXCELLENT results for years with topamax. So I am wondering what is wrong. How much are most people taking??

100 mg was enough for me for a while, till the headaches started coming back. I eventually had to increase to 200 mg - but had severe side effects at that dose, backed down to 150mg daily, and have been at that level for quite some time now.
That seems to be my magic number. My migraines are pretty much under control. And yes, it's also a part of the daily cocktail for my treatment resistant depression (bipolar, a mood stabilizer)
This is a triple-duty drug for me. It helps counter the weight gain tendancies all the other psych meds have.
Unfortunately, I would think your migraines (if that's all you take it for) would have to be severe & frequent for the the side effects of this drug to be tolerable.
You'll have cognitive issues. In other words, it may effect you in a ny number of assorted interesting ways, but basically, either you, or those closest to you, will be convinced you've taken a one-way trip to stupid-ville.
For me, it's worth it, I have (some) little tricks to compensate for what I am aware of, and the headaches were life altering. It also acts as part of my mood stabilization. Not to mention - I'm on the road to stupid-ville w/ the cognitive issues half the psych meds provide me, anyway.
You learn to deal. Or not. That's really my quite optimistic way of saying I don't care what others think about whether or not my immediate ability to recall the day of the week is present at any given time. I'm crap-loads smarter than most of them anyway. That's even when I'm not manic & grandiose.
(Genius & madness go hand in hand)
