I have panic disorder and started taking Prozac several months ago at 5 mg (the start off low approach), thought it was of some help and have increased the dose slowly to 15 mg, which I've been taking for about 3 months. I tried 20 mg one time a month ago and it sent me into a deep depression. Two days ago, I went to 17.5 mg and within 24 hours, I was flying! I never had any insomnia, stimulation, etc. from Prozac until now. It's a nice feeling-but how could it have happened that fast? Anyone had a similar experience?

I've heard that a short ssri withdrawal can give you a better feeling for a limited time. But I don't know personally. Why didn't you stay on 5mg Prozac and how
is the effect on panic, depression compared with other ssris e.g. paxil?kind regards

Paxil was great! The best three years of my life. But then, it was gone. I went up from 5 mg because although 5 mg helped with my periods of now intense fearfulness instead of panic...I just felt Prozac might be more helpful. Part of it was being greedy: I wanted to feel as well as I did on Paxil.
Maybe I wasn't clear. I was only on Prozac at 20 mg for 1 day and then I immediately went back down to 15 mg. It was the increase from 15 to 17.5 mg that is so stimulating that I'm wondering about...

How do you get 17.5 mg of Prozac?

I'm a chemist-I could have 18.745 mg if I wanted.:>} Actually, I take a brand name Prozac 10 mg and a PAR generic 10 mg tablet and take 3/4 of it. I'd use a brand name 10 mg tab, but they only make capsules now.

The first time I tried prozac (20mg), it had that dramatic of an effect for me within about 2 days- astounding even the doctor.

I don't understand why you would have such an intense reaction to 17.5 and not 20 but I have read that Prozac is one of the more "stimulating" SSRI's.
