Hi
Well I've been taking seroquil for about 2 years all at varied doses but for at least the past 11 months I've been taking 200mg, Since about March of this year he's added 150 wellbutrinSr, and 30mg amitryptaline.
I was taken off of Paxil because it created such an angry response, a sort of "I don't care" view. The paxil was replaced with wellbutrin after 4 months of just being on seroquil and amitryptaline.
I know that wellbutrin and paxil don't have the same chemistry (they both aren't SSRI's)...
Any views on my irritability? I hate it because I have never been like this before, usually depressed but it's almost like a rage that comes from nowhere.
All thoughts are welcome...

One person's response (mine):
Wellbutrin made me borderline psychotic. Seriously. I had to be put on an antipsychotic while on wellbutrin ...which in retrospect, kinda defeats the purpose.
I always thought it was related to wellbutrin's action on dopamine. I've responded very well to TCAs, and even can tolerate ritalin and it's family of meds ... different action on dopamine must make a world of difference.

...Hi,
I've been on Wellbutrin several times and every time it has caused aggressiveness and some degree of anger in me. I've been on straight bupropion and the SR and XL versions of Wellbutrin. Since the SR is now available in generic, it is cheaper. However, I found the new XL version of Wellbutrin to be more gentle in the way it is released with fewer side effects. My insurance really punishes me for using the new brand name meds; $30 copay versus $5 for the generics.
Good Luck,
Jedi

Hi....
Wellbutrin REALLY makes my blood boil...I become angry, anxious, just miserable. I've heard this as a side effect from many others too. How is it with just the amitriptyline? I know it has some ugly side effects, but seemed to really help me when needed.
Best,
Jay

And I always hate the idea of adding another drug to combat the use of the effects of one drug that you are already on. Maybe I'll just suggest another tricyclic or see if the one I'm on is better at another level.

I think I've decided to just ask the purpose of this drug this time. I think I'm very lucky to be in a good canadian health care system where wether I've been working and not recieved health care there is government assistance for most antidepressants, the only ones I've encountered that aren't covered are sleeping pills.
I also don't know which is better a flash of anger or saddness.
Thanks for your input though :)

My family was saying how they noticed such a difference in me, that I was happier, more creative (I'm a musician), and a lot less angry. And just now they're starting to notice the irritability and my wanting to be alone, starting fights out of nowhere. I guess I've been on it for 5 months now.
So from your message are you saying that you have taken amitryptaline? If so what dosage did you find helped you? I know it varies from person to person. What side effects bothered you most?
Thanks for your message :)

...Hi again,
I've taken fairly high doses of nortriptyline; it is a major metabolite of amytriptyline. If the amytriptyline works for you but the side effects are too much, nortriptyline may be worth a try. I noticed almost no side effects from nortriptyline. It did not help my depression, but I am treatment resistant atypical. The MAOI Nardil is the only med that has helped my depression.
Be Well,
