Posted by rjlockhart on August 18, 2006, at 22:43:28

I have lately having problems recalling information, i am on 6mg i feel i am drugged out.

Can this cause angy kinda deteration in the brain, i talked to a pharmacist about this he said no, but i still dont know.

Does anyone here know if benzodiazpines at high doses cause problems.

When Zanax first came out I sarted on 1mg day. After 3 years I was on 6mg/day and it had less effect than the 1 did initially. I began making mental errors and short term memory was shot. This was 20 plus years ago. I detoxed much more rapidly than my physician recommended. Iwas completly off it in 2 months. It was sheer hell but I was young and determined not to prolong the process. I drank wine at night to sleep I switched to Clonzapam years ago and remain at 2mg day. Never felt the need to increase.

Oh sh*t.

I have heard Xanax does this. Oh god. My doctor would either put me back on Clonazepam or Phenobarbital, which are 2 things to come off from alprazolam.

I was given Xanax last month at up to 3mgs day PRN, to curb my desire to drink.

Xanax is known to cause agatation, paranoia, confusion, violent reactions-it's not the 'magic bullet i wished' -and there's the confusion/memory issue.

Cheers

Paulwell I took it for years and as far as I know the worst side effect would be grogginess. It also has a mild antidepressant effect. So no problems for anyone I've ever known. And my neighbor teaches third grade and is on 3-6mg a day. No memory problems for her either. Love Phillipa

My advise would be to switch to longer acting benzo. Xanax and Ativan great for panic atacks and short term. For chronic Gad or supplement Clonzapam or valium ar much better. I take 2MG every night and half life is over 20 hrs so nee need to worry about when I need more. It does not provide the boost Xanax does and may cause depression. I take Lexapro in the AM. I have not been depressed or anxious while on this combo. Each person is differet. It is well documented that Xanax for long term use is much more problomatic. As one who has experienced it I would get off ASAP. I still might take 1 or 2 1/mg month as needed for extreme stress. Barely feel it.
