In addition to bipolar I deal with severe social anxiety. Neurontin definitely helps me with that. I know all about it being used by the company as a cure-all, but it helps with my social anx.
Problem--I feel it bloats me out within 2 weeks of use. I am recovered from an eating disorder and not supposed to weigh myself (I did this compulsively with acute reactions) so I can only say that my pants get too tight and even unwearable.
Anyone else have this? Any knowledge as to why? I am not eating more (I am very self-aware and switched on diet-wise) and exercise 1-2 hrs daily (walking and exercise bike).

I feel your pain. I have an eating disorder and any med that causes weight gain is not an option. When I was on Neurontin I had a lot of edema. It was so bad that I had to be hospitalised. So you might be retaining water. And when you have an ED weight gain is weight again .... water weight or not. I'm really sorry. Anyhow, that was my experience.
Take care.

Thanks for your empathy Maxime. You know I do feel like my belly is a water balloon just now. And I have a meeting with my folks, haven't seen them in 10 years. I'd like to just not look all popped out and PG when I'm not.....But gotta keep cool. How long did it take you to stop the Neurontin and the edema to go away? If you don't mind my asking.

I was in the hospital for a week (so it took a week). I had the edema ALL in my legs. I stopped the Neurontin immediately when I was admitted into the hospital. It was an extreme reaction. You could try taking a B complex vitamin and extra B6 ... it's a diurectic of sorts (B6).
I'm really sorry. *HUGS*
Congrats on your recovery from your ED!

Wow, you really did have a bad reaction. Mine is less dramatic but still a problem, and it helps that you understand. Thanks for the congrats--ED recovery can be a struggle (like now) but so worth it. Take care!!

weight gain was never an issue for me.
However, you always have to remember this: Every med affects everyone differently.
Good luck with it. To me, it seemed like Neurontin made all the other meds work better.

That's very interesting--lucky you! Meds are weird. Thanks for the encouragement.
