Ok - since my doctor is pushing the Lexapro for anxiety I will take it (at least until I get through my surgery). My main concern is weight gain.
Will Lexapro make me pile on the pounds?

I can only speak of celexa, which is nearly (but not quite!) identical to lexapro and it made me put on some weight. But that said, it happened over the course of 6 months and the weight gain wasn't too horrific (maybe 5kg) - not like remeron or zyprea type weight gain. With me it was more of an apathetic weight gain - I didn't care about piling on the pounds. So I imagine you might be able to control the gain.

It's also difficult for me to pin that all on Lex as my lifestyle changed and I cut down dramatically in my outside the home work schedule AND, I actually felt like eating after barely holding on from the swrill down the depression/anxiety drain for a number of years. I do think my metabolism has changed, but there are a number of factors that contribute to that finding for me.
On the good side, I finally have the motivation to get to the gym - which I had NEVER done - and I'm working on improving my diet.
Lexapro has been a wonder for me, which was a big and very nice surprise I did not expect. I'm off Klonopin now too. So, for me, it's been good.

Actually, it was not. Of course, I think I'm the exception to any number of "rules". (Smile)
I found Lex really treated my anxiety well. At about 8 months after startup with Lex - I briefly increased my K dose for about 3 weeks with a Lex dose increase at 6 months in - I tapered at about 1/4 increments every 2 weeks. When I got down to .25 mgs per day, I did .25 mgs every other day for a week. I had no problems. Again, I'm weird..... (another Smile)

When I got down to .125 mgs (I called it Klonopin dust) I went to every other day for a week.

I agree with Glydin your metabolism has a lot to do with it if you become less active that true of anything med or no med. Love Phillipa

I'm having a hysterectomy - which could cause some hormone issues and weight gain in itself. But after being on Lexapro for a week - I could care less about anything.

I have been told by most of the psy dr.s I have seen and family practice doctors that all of the new meds can cause weight gain. I put on over 30 lbs. in a very short time when I first started on them and have never been able to loose it. I am almost a vegan and have been for years plus I exercise pretty rigurously every day. If I didn't and ate the American diet, I would probably be huge.
