What to do?

Posted by med_empowered on August 11, 2006, at 12:29:22

OK--I've been off meds for over a year now. My problem is that now I'm anxious (especially in social situations) AND I have lots of difficulty concentrating, like ADHD to the max (my co-workers think I'm on drugs 24/7).

What could help? I've done the SNRIs, the SSRIs, and the TCAs. I hated depakote.

THanks.

Emsam seems unexpectedly anxiolytic and pro-social, despite the energizing effects that show up early in treatment. I read a few abstracts that hinted that selegiline might produce an increased release of evoked DA and NE release. Perhaps it would be helpful for ADHD and concentration as well. If not, I don't see why amphetamine could not be added to it. Many people have been taking Klonopin with Emsam and having great success for treating depression with social anxiety.

Good luck.

Thanks for this information, Scott.
Do you know if Emsam is available in Australia?
Thanks

Not depressed, more energy, less anxiety and pro-social (which i am really enjoying because i have some social anxiety probs). Anyway, i think it would definitely be worth trying. Oh yea, the only side effect i have is early morning wakening..but, i still get 6-7 hrs. of sleep a nite. Good Luck.

Yes i am. I take 300 mgs. b.i.d., and it is working very well for me. For me the main thing i have noticed is i am way more social. Also has helped depression, anxiety, and it gives me energy.

The big question is, is it going to continue to work for me?? I've been let down by so many drugs, i just don't have a lot of faith in them for long term help. Only time will tell.

For those who don't respond to the reuptake inhibitors, MAOIs have historically been quite effective - I've been considering them myself. If the main problem is social anxiety, I have heard that you can't beat Nardil (if you can bear the side effects and dietary restrictions). If you're not that desperate it would probably be good to try EMSAM as it has fewer side effects, no dietary restrictions and is good for ADHD-like symptoms.

Good luck,
Check
