Seroquel

Can someone please tell me about this medication. Is it safe? Do you need blood tests? Does it cause diabetes often, as I've heard? I'm supposed to start it today and I am concerned. Okay, I'm scared!

Seroquel has a low level of EPSEs, and the risk of tardive dyskinesia is extremely low. It can be relatively sedating and can cause weight gain, which may ultimately result in diabetes. On the topic of weight gain/diabetes, my doctor feels it is in the middle of the pack somewhere, perhaps similar to or somewhat worse than Risperdal but not as bad as Zyprexa. You should monitor your weight while on it, and there are other atypicals available that do not cause the same degree of weight gain; although, they have their own side effects.
