How would one go about spotting what is anxiety and what is akathasia. I ask because I definately feel anxious but I find it hard to sit still I feel like I am crawling out of my skin and frequently pace about. How would I know what is anxiety and what is akathasia, is there some sort of spectrum between the two. I ask becuase I take one drug which has a propensity to cause akathasia (flupenthixol - a high potency antipsychotic) but I have always experienced anxiety. Hmmm
Best regards, Bunny

These are classic self-descriptions of akathisia.
When you sit down, do you rock back and forth? What do you do with your legs?
When you stand in one place, do you shift your weight from foot to foot or "walk in place"?

> When you stand in one place, do you shift your weight from foot to foot or "walk in place"?Yes definately, in fact I must say I find it quite difficult to stand in one place (sitting isnt so bad). When I am attempting to stand in one spot and I have room I make knights moves (three spaces forward and one to side) about the point I am trying to stand in. So I guess thats a bit OCD and a bit akathasia.
Not so much anymore but when I was taking Zyprexa I used to feel complelled to stand on top of things (furniture mostly) to releive my tension. Would you say thats more OCD or akathasia? Is it possible to have anxiety and akathasia?

It does sound like akathisia is in there, though.

Scott I've always been anxious and swing my leg but can sit. But I need to always do something like the computer or picking my cuticles. And my legs twitch. But I think it's anxiety. Love Jan
