Phillipa, dont read other ENSAM posts

Every med affects everyone differently. You have taken a long time to work up your courage to try ENSAM and I am excited for you.

Let's work on this.

What is the worst thing that can happen?

Bad side effects. And I'm already chasing my husband away as I am afraid of being alone. I'm overwhelmed by the simplest things. What if it doesn't work? What's left? And I've had to bite off pices of luvox during the day I'm dizzy. And I feel I should be perfect. Love Jan

> Bad side effects.

Any ones in particular?

Fair enough. That is a valid concern. However, you know that each individual displays a unique array of side effects. Sometimes there are none at all. You also know that the list of side effects supplied by the manufacturer is lengthy and that each side effect does not apply to the majority of people, and that they must all be reported whether they are caused by the drug or not.

You *always* have the option to stop taking the medication *whenever* you want. No one can force you to continue to take this drug against your wishes. The best that anyone can do is to advise and encourage you.

Emsam (transdermal selegiline) seems like a relatively clean drug. Selegiline in its oral form has existed for over 25 years and has displayed an excellent safety record, and is noted for its favorable side effect profile. Let's deal with the insomnia if and when it presents itself.

> And I'm already chasing my husband away as I am afraid of being alone.

Are you more afraid of being alone, now that you are taking Emsam?

> I'm overwhelmed by the simplest things.

For example?

> What if it doesn't work?

I understand this fear. It is a paradox, though, isn't it? How can you test a drug to see if it works without fully evaluating it by bringing a trial to completion.

> What's left?

This is something that you have plenty of time to deal with. It is a problem to solve logically and creatively. I'm sure there are alternatives yet for you to explore. There are so very many permutations that these drugs can be combined into.

> And I've had to bite off pices of luvox during the day I'm dizzy.

I am willing to bet that part of what is going on with you is that you are experiencing an intensification of anxiety as a symptom of withdrawal from Luvox discontinuation. In this case, it is important that you remind yourself that the anxiety is false anxiety. It is being generated by the withdrawal syndrome, and not by your thoughts. In reality, it is the opposite way around. Your thoughts are being influenced and generated by the anxiety produced by the withdrawal. It is no wonder that you are afraid to be alone, are having difficulties making decisions, and are fearful of the future.

> And I feel I should be perfect.

Can you explain this in more detail?

I really can't believe this. I post exactly how EMSAM made me feel in an above post and was being HONEST and sharing my experience. Are we suppose to post a bunch of lies and deception?

If you're going to ask someone to not read EMSAM posts, you may as well say don't ever log on to Psycho Babble again.

Please continue expressing your thoughts and opinions in your posts. This has nothing to do with you nor your posts nor anyone else's.

We're just trying to encourage Phillipa to try a medicine she has been working up her courage to try for the longest time.

Great reply SLS and you can do it Phillipa!!!!

I am excited for you. Just give it a try. ENSAM seems to be a miracle drug for some, and perhaps you will have the same results. The best thing is you have nothing to lose; if it doesnt work, as SLS said, you can stop taking it. Go for it!

I love you guys I don't know what I'd do without you. I haven't started it yet have to get the luvox out of my system first. Scott I need to be perfect as I was always perfect or almost before. As a nurse I never made a mistake. The first time I made a slight med error and took the narcotic keys home by mistake I quit. I would never hurt a patient reguardless of the fact that I was the only nurse on the floor that night . And looks wise the same. It's hard to get old. Love Jan heck you all know my name anyway.

Hi,

Congrat for your new stuff. I think it can help you to be more active. Just be aware that ENSAM is activating, anxiogenic. You could raise the dose of your benzo if needed. Keep in touch your pdoc and good luck. Bye.

Jan,
you know i love you..you are a great friend. Sweetheart, perfection does not exist, period. Trying to be perfect or feel perfect will only do one thing; KEEP YOUR ILLNESS ALIVE! Seek comfort and seek contentment. Perfection/feeling perfect is not realistic. And, i agree with everything Scott has said, please listen to him..re-read his posts to you over and over, HE IS RIGHT, HIS INSIGHT AND ADVICE IS THE BEST YOU ARE GOING TO GET...Please do what he recommends. You know i am on EMSAM, and doing very well, the only side effect i have had is early morning wakening..big deal..so i wake up at 5 in the morning, i'm still getting 6 hrs of sleep a night, and now i feel so good i want to get up early so i can enjoy the whole day. :) EMSAM is a gentle MAOI..nothing like Nardil or Parnate. Trust "us"..try EMSAM..all will be fine.

Love your friend who cares very much about you! Monte

Dear Phillipa,

I want to add my encouragement to you in trying Emsam. Go back and read all those wonderful posts by Robert David. Remember those? And Donna Louise's.

I have only been on the board for a couple months but I must say you strike me as a determined and strong woman. Please give emsam, and yourself, a chance. It won't be perfect --nothing is right?-- but it could be really helpful. You deserve to feel better.

Wishing you all the best & looking forward to supporting you as you try it out,

--mayzee
