My wife is Bipolar with psycotic episodes. Geodon is working wonderfully, should she avoid marijuana?

I am also a BP w/ pschotic episodes and I take Seroquel (800mg - that's alot!) which works miracles for me. I smoke grass ocasionally, and my P-doc says it's not a big deal. In fact, he said that it's much less harmful than drinking, as long as it's done in moderation (I smoke once or twice a week). I've been stable now for over 2 years, so I can say that it hasn't hurt me....but we're all different, of course. You should bring up the subject with your P-doc, believe me, you're not the first person that he or she has seen that smokes weed. ;-)

Good luck to you! =)

Sorry to sound ultra-conservative, but I disagree greatly with your pdoc. I think marijuanna should be avoided at all costs, especiall by those who have existing psychopathologies. In fact, all recreational drugs (with the exception of nicotine etc) should be avoided I think. Drugs are illeagal for good reasons...

Ace I'm sorry but you're on the wrong argument line if you want to "win"... cigarettes kill many more people than illegal drugs do, so you can't say that they are *not* illegal for a good reason. The reason is just that big business has too much to lose in that area. Equally alcohol... I don't like repeating myself, but alcohol is, clearly, legal, and yet does a great deal of harm, both physical and mental, to those who overdo it.
*Some* people should avoid cannabis cos it *does* affect some people very badly, but they are a minority and shouldn't get to curtail the medicinal rights of others.

> I agree with the above. It is well known that marijuana can induce or exacerbate types of symptomologies as those found in the Bipolar person. So why would anyone want to take a chance on reducing their chances for stability, and feeling healthy again. I am not anti marijuana, but I do think that people with mood disorders or Psychotic patterns need to be very cautious with the use of marijuana.

Sorry to interrupt, but I'd like to redirect follow-ups regarding marijuana to Psycho-Babble Substance Use. Here's a link:
