Why did it make you smile? Because it's so off the wall? Or did you start thinking happy thoughts? Or is it the Ambien?
I want Ambien! It worked for a few nights (I was prescribed it when I was living in the U.S.)

Well, it made me laugh. Maybe the thought of you doing it? Finding the thoughts? What thoughts are these?
Maybe it's reassuring to see psychiatry so reduced?
I dunno.

Or maybe you could record an old episode of "Mr. Roger's neighborhood" and put that under your pillow..filled with lots and lots of "happy little thoughts!" Sounds like your shrink is CrAzY..ha, aren't they all?!

i know it sounds ridiculous, but there is some basis in it.
right before sleep you go into a hypnotic and (iirc) a state in which your mind is a bit more open to suggestion.
HOWEVER.... knowing the science etc.... would I do it ?
If i havnt done it yet i doubt i would... i would feel like an idiot recording happy positive affirmations...
(besides- i have no happy thoughts to begin with)To hear this from my doctor would piss me off... if i went to a hypno-therapist i would expect to hear something like that, but from a psychiatrist... not what id be lookin for.
i dont keep journals cause i hate to even see my own words in print (of the rambling, complaining journal flavor).... if i had to LISTEN to myself.... ugh.

Maxie the recording would drive me crazier than I am. Where the heck are you going early in the am? Not that it's any of my business. I just envy people who can get away without sleep. Love jan

If you can't think of anything else you could try this.
It came to me as I was waking up, therefore we could provisionally call itThe Royal Road
Grappling, lost, incompetance
no words, no view
Can't even find my pillow

I'd find that advice a bit insulting. It really is unfortunate to hear something like that after you've already spent so much time, energy, and money making appointments to brief the doc of your history. That is a real let-down. I saw one doctor probably 10x for help tapering off of Xanax. Everytime I saw him he kept asking me how the Klonopin was going. Sometimes he didn't even remember seeing me as a patient. Then the guy asks for medical records from other docs. Honestly, do doctors EVER read these before they see you? Make me jump through hoops to track down all my docs and go through the hassle of getting my records released for what? In any event, I'm sorry to hear about your visit with the doc. That can honestly be heartbreaking to walk out of there feeling that you've just been passed through. Assembly line medicine for ya! Hope you find a good one. Best regards. H. Upmann

That post made me just, im sorry that doctor needs a little hit of reality to his head. I laughed hard.
Anyways, try and see if self-hypnosis would bring your mind to any other sort of state of mind?
I have tried it before, no results first couple of times, some results after a period of time.
Your doctor actually said this?
Didnt you used to take Clonazepam? like 4mg at night? i rerember in post. Maybe that was in the US at the time. Klonopin is the MAIN benzo of choice here in the US. I hated the stuff. Went to Ativan, Back to klonopin, then Xanax, Xanax lasts only 2 hours then WHOOSh back to anxiety.
Try, well can you get a professional hypnotherpist? that would be superior. I want to go to one so bad right now. I dont know.
Does your doctor prescribe you any sleep aids? ok say i will do the happy thoughts if you prescibe me ambien, but be nice, i would say please refer me to another doctor.
Matt

Yes, it hurts to think that my pdoc believes I can simply will myself out of my depression. For years psych nurses have told me that I depend too much on my intellect and that I need to deal with my emotions. Now this pdoc sees me as a fully competent and capable human being. I feel like he is saying "now if you would just apply yourself better, you wouldn't be depressed".
Declan I love the song. :)
I don't have the energy to go through it again ... but this pdoc is all I've got ... and all I can get ... case closed. I would have to move to another Province.

There's a Bergman film where the psychiatrist locks the patient in a cupboard and tells him/her to count to a hundred.
'Face to Face', maybe?

Hey Matt
I'm slowly learning self-hypnosis. But more to relax.
I was on 4 mg of Klonopin and then I went to
3.5 mg and recently down to 3 mg but I think I will have to go up to 3.25 mg. I am going to come off this stuff. We don't have Ambien in Canada.
I have used Immovane which is similar to Lunesta ... bad after and all. But it doesn't work any more.
I am now prescribed Nozinan, an old anti-psychotic that is stronger than Thorazine (which I used to take). But I think it makes me fat.
So I use Benadryl.
I can't get another pdoc. We don't have that luxury where I live.
As wacky as my pdoc is, he is also a gentle and kind soul. He has paid for meds when I had no money ... close to $300 worth and he would let me pay him back. He had the pharmacy charge it to his personal credit card ( he works out of his home and part-time in a psych hospital ... he is in his 80's).

Yes. And in Nov 2005 I was living in another Province (without a pdoc) I attempted suicide and was in the hospital for a couple of weeks in the ICU. My pdoc told me to move back "home" and to borrow money from a friend (to get back and to move my stuff) and he would pay them back. Then he hospitalised me from December to February. I did borrow the money from a friend, but I never asked him to pay back my friend. I couldn't do that ... NO WAY. But he would have.
So yeah, he is special ... albeit unconventional.
